Description

Up for sale here is "The Best of Bob Marley & the Wailers" on the Coxsone label. This is original Jamaican pressing with silk screen printed cover art. This is the REAL music. Classic Coxsone productions (and one killer Upsetter track..... a very different version of Small Axe with some cool fake fade-outs) of the greatest vocal trio in reggae history. The cover is free from splits and writing but does suffer from some rubwear and ringwear and some areas of light creasing. The LP is typical janky Jamaican pressing with lots of dimples and some spots of haziness and lots of light scuffing. I never know how to grade these funky old Jamaican pressings because I think it probably started it's life as a G+ record so all I can do to be fair to myself and the future owner is to give my listening observations. Beware anyone who is describing an original pressing of this LP as NM....they are either a liar or they are in possession of a counterfeit or later pressing. Side one plays through with some steady quiet ticking and clicking.....really a lot like the classically described frying bacon. It is below the level of the music, but is definitely there. It never seems to get worse (or better) and by the nature of this consistency, one starts to tune it out after awhile. The second side starts with a little bump in the lead-in groove dead wax that causes a stick (the needle jumps back slightly and just keeps repeating) on my main turntable (and to be fair, that is a $2,000 cartridge that is designed for sound quality....not tracking funky Jamaican LPs). If I move it forward, I miss the first second of the song, but the rest of the side plays fine...similar to side one although there are a series of 5 or 6 louder clicks on "Small Axe". The lead-in track plays fine on the turntable in my office with a more modest Sumiko cartridge....it just makes a few clicks. I have shot video of both turntables and it is youtube. I'd be happy to send you a link so you can see it for yourself. For what it is worth, I bought a copy to replace this one that plays SLIGHTLY quieter for $500. So please place your bid accordingly.

Shipping is $4 in the US (or $8 for Priority Mail), $14 to Canada and $24 to the rest of the world. Additional LPs are $1 each in the US, $3 to Canada and $6 each to the rest of the world. I pack records outside of the covers to protect the seams from splitting. They are shipped in dedicated record mailers with padded inserts. I spend a lot of time and money on shipping with care so your record looks as good when it arrives as it did when it left.
