Description

THE BEATLES - 'LOVE ME DO'/'P.S. I LOVE YOU'

Here is a rare opportunity to acquire one of the rarest Beatles records; a genuine UK DEMONSTRATION 45 of their debut single

Just 250 copies were pressed for distribution to DJs & reviewers prior to its October 1962 release, and only a handful survive today.

This genuine disc bears the correct 'oversize' labels with a large red 'A' on the 'Love Me Do' label: 45-R 4949

Both labels also have the 'DEMONSTRATION RECORD - NOT FOR SALE' wording & 'The Parlophone Co. Ltd..' worded rims

Paul McCartney's songwriting credit on both sides is misspelt as 'McArtney'

Matrix numbers: 7XCE 17144-1N & 7XCE 17145-1N

Special 'demo/jukebox record' stamper codes: -/JR & -/JR

A 'ZT' purchase tax code is stamped around the centre of the 'Love Me Do' label & in both run-outs.

The disc is housed within a pristine, original EMI promotional 'Top Pop' sleeve.

CONDITION

Disc

Labels: EXCELLENT +

A highly attractive clean & unblemished pair, free from any writing, stickers etc. I'll let the images above do the talking.

Visual: EXCELLENT

Both playing surfaces are extremely clean and retain all of their factory shine with no dull or clouded areas and display no noticeable surface marks on strong daylight. Closer examination directly beneath my powerful halogen desk lamp reveals several harmless stylus/paper hairlines, but nothing I would call a 'scratch'. Both sides of this fine disc lie 100% flat on the turntable when playing.

Sound Quality

'Love Me Do': VERY GOOD + 'P.S. I Love You': EXCELLENT +

This disc has clearly not been played very much at all. My careful playcheck detected some light background noise on 'Love Me Do' which accounts for the slight downgrade, however this is not present on 'P.S. I Love You' which plays superbly and without fault. Both tracks are free from any groove/playwear distortion, clicks, pops or any other audible distractions.

Cover: NEAR MINT

This original example (not a recent reproduction) is in virtually the same condition as it left the EMI offices 50 years ago.

This item is located in and will be shipped from AUSTRIA. Fully insured shipping will be arranged with the buyer at the end of the auction.

Our grading is strict & conservative grading under strong daylight & directly beneath a halogen desk lamp to UK 'RECORD COLLECTOR' standards.

We carefully play every record I sell on an EMT 950 transcription turntable fitted with a 'TSD 15' cartridge at volume and list all visual and audible faults.

Every image in this listing has been taken by ourselves (with a Canon G1X camera) and are of the actual item for sale. We do not copy from other listings or use stock images.

Each record is professionally & securely packaged in custom-made record mailing boxes with the disc removed from the cover.
