Vee Jay Records PROMO LP "HEAR THE BEATLES TELL ALL" Brackets [VJ] PRO-202; AUTHENTIC & Very RARE!
NOT MANY OF THESE EXIST IN TODAY'S COLLECTOR'S MARKET! In 1998, there were as few as FOUR (4) known copies of this PROMO LP. This LP was commercially released by Vee Jay in MONO in October/November 1964 but edited out crowd noise and screaming fans etc., since it was the opinion of most that people would much rather have had the opportunity to actually hear all the interviews clearly. When these were pressed, Vee Jay had misprinted labels that read "DAVE HULL INTERVIEWS JOHN LENNON" & "JIM STECK INTERVIEWS JOHN, PAUL, GEORGE & RINGO" but the labels on each side should have been reversed. After discovering this error,Vee Jay requested that all copies previously distributed to DJs be returned. Most but NOT all DJs complied. This copy is one of the better ones as far as it's condition. Also the "name switch" on the labels are NOT corrected in ink, as some were. This is undoubtedly one of the rarest U.S. Beatles LPs ever released and is the ONLY Beatles LP released by Vee Jay as a WHITE LABEL PROMO. When this LP was released commericially, the Vee Jay Catalog # was PRO-202.
There have been second thoughts on how much this item should be offered for. The consensus was that the price you see listed herein is a more realistic one. (Dave Hull & Jim Steck worked for KRLA Radio in Los Angeles and had always claimed that they owned these interviews without restriction for commercial use. It was actually Jim Steck who interviewed John Lennon, with Dave Hull interviewing the others). VINYL is around VG+ (Impossible to find NM). In fact, the only known copy of this LP in NM condition was DAVE HULL's own personal one. Condition is nowhere near as important on rare items like this as is the fact that this scarce PROMO LP was very limited in distribution and is extremely RARE & SCARCE to say the least. Actually finding one of these in ANY CONDITION would be a remarkable feat in itself! The surfaces have only some hairline marks but plays great. Once again, trying to find this rare record in NM condition is almost impossible. The accompanying cover (a stock commercial cover with no promo markings) was issued with this record. This Album was never issued in a PROMO cover.
SPECIAL NOTE: Included with this PROMO LP are some very special historical documents; a set of THREE (3) original Vee Jay Records invoices with some copies of checks dated back from September & October 1964, made out to a gentleman by the name of Dayton Burr Howe for his engineering services on this LP , for which he was never credited. He later became known as "Bones" Howe, a successful recording engineer, producer, music supervisor and a musician. Mr. Howe was known to have also worked with ..... Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, The Everly Brothers & Jerry Lee Lewis among others. (This documentation & historical info becomes a great addition to this already extremely valuable and RARE LP.) Has BRACKETS [VJ] Labels. Very clean. WHITE LABEL / BLUE PRINT.
COVER / OUTER JACKET is around VG+.
NO RETURNS & NO REFUNDS. This LP is being sold based upon its EXTREME RARITY. We make no claims as to it's condition as anything other than flawed (VG) as described. Also it should be noted that a RETURN is allowed, ONLY if item had turned out NOT to be the genuine item issued by Vee Jay Records. That's not the case here however since this record is the OFFICIAL Vee Jay release from 1964. That said, our policy stands as stated. Remember, this LP is NOT priced or being sold based upon any particular condition. RARITY and even more so, SCARCITY is how this record is valued by most industry experts and fellow collectors.
NOTE: We ONLY accept returns If: (1) Your item is DEFECTIVE (Photos Required), (2) It's NOT the item you purchased (Photos Required), (3) It's proven NOT to be AUTHENTIC. Since 95% of this item's value is based upon its extreme RARITY & SCARCITY, any discrepancies over it's condition will NOT be considered to be valid reasons for a return of the item. Any Return must be approved by this office prior to any action being taken.

A LITTLE BACKGROUND INFORMATION ABOUT THIS RARE ITEM:
On 8-24-64, Jim Steck interviewed JOHN LENNON and on 8-25-64 Dave Hull interviewed all the BEATLES in Los Angeles. Vee Jay Records issued this in the U.S.A. as a PROMO release during the BEATLES 1964 summer tour officially on 9-14-64. The discussions on both the "A" & "B" Sides include background noise consisting of consisting of sporadic drumming and bongos, percussion and what appears to be some kind of tubular bells. The sleeve identifies this as being edited & scored by Lou Adler, with percussion by Hal Blaine.
FRONT COVER of LP states: “LIVE IN PERSON INTERVIEWS RECORDED DURING THEIR LATEST-AMERICAN TOUR" in RED across the top of the cover. Right below this is the title of the LP appearing in white block letters on an angled black rectangular banner. Phrases and questions relating to the interviews appear randomly throughout the lower 3/4 of the cover. The back of the album cover is reminiscent of the AD BACK cover on the 1st issue of INTRODUCING THE BEATLES featuring miniature pictures of album covers and singles picture sleeves. But rather than VJ promoting OTHER FINE ALBUMS OF SIGNIFICANT INTEREST on this LP, the cover plugs 4 Beatles Vee-Jay & TOLLIE singles and their most recently released LPs: Songs, Pictures and Stories of The Fabulous Beatles, The Beatles vs. The Four Seasons and The Beatles & Frank Ifield On Stage (Portrait Cover). Oddly, their most popular album, INTRODUCING THE BEATLES is not pictured.

Where does our knowledge about "VEE JAY" RECORDS originate? Although there've been several very well done and well researched publications about the history of the "BEATLES", their recordings, and the companies who had the unique opportunity to have had an association with them, most if not all based their research solely upon THIRD PARTY INFORMATION and whatever existing info / documents remained available. Regarding our specific expertise with respect to "VEE JAY", our owner was fortunate enough to have had a relative who was personal friends of both Vivian Carter & her husband Jimmy Bracken (original "VEE JAY" owners). Their friendship goes back to their days in the 1950s in Gary, Indiana. Since he had previous experience at that time in the recording industry, they hired him to work at "VEE JAY". With his 1st hand knowledge of everything that went on there thru December 1964, his insight and experiences with respect to daily company operations and internal issues which he graciously passed on to us, have been invaluable since they originated from his personal experience. Production & Vendor issues were his areas of knowledge & expertise that he was personally involved with daily basis during the "BEATLES" era. His first hand knowledge plus his personal possessions and documents retained from his years there, have been and always will remain priceless to us. He had always stated that 1964 was very stressful for everyone there. Although he remained friends with the Brackens, it was no longer a place he felt he could continue to work. We are thrilled to have had the opportunity to pass on what we consider to be some of the greatest personal insight that one could ever have imagined obtaining from a recording company of such historical significance.

"LIMITED" RETURN POLICY ...... Actually when you look through many current auctions on EBAY you'll find we're not the only sellers who refuse RETURNS unconditionally. It should be noted that under the category of "RETURNS", many sellers state: "THE SELLER DOES NOT OFFER RETURNS. HOWEVER YOU'RE COVERED BY EBAY's MONEY BACK GUARANTEE IF YOU RECEIVE AN ITEM THAT'S NOT AS DESCRIBED". Our LIMITED RETURN POLICY refers to any item "AS DESCRIBED". To define "AS DESCRIBED", we follow the rules of this site with actual limited verbiage within an auction with respect to WHAT THE ITEM IS, WHO THE ARTIST IS, etc. With respect to a term like AUTHENTICITY, that can only be determined by viewing detailed photos and posting accurate descriptions along with accepted industry characteristics. We never consciously engage in the selling of items that aren't authentic (unless specified otherwise). If a potential buyer has questions, they may seek additional photos or more details, some of which can be provided by viewing and comparing them to known examples or referring to an accepted industry publication. As for condition of an item, for example in the case of a vinyl record we always do our best to describe play surfaces and post detailed photos as best we can as amateur photographers. Describing condition of a vinyl record is not an exact science and is based on someone's visual exam and the opinion of the examiner. Industry standards are followed by all of our examiners. Labels are best described by posting detailed photos that illustrate defects if and where they exist. As for outer jackets or picture sleeves, we'll attempt to inform buyers about any possible bends, folds, splits, writing, tears etc. Photos posted are the best descriptive evidence. With respect to items sold like either a ONE-OF-A-KIND, RARE COLLECTIBLE, ARTIFACT or MUSEUM PIECE, they're sold AS IS with limited consideration given to condition since they are unique as they don't fall under standard return guidelines there are damages discovered on arrival. As stated in some of our previous auctions, we insist that prospective buyers ask questions or request additional photos PRIOR TO PURCHASE if they are uncertain in MAKING ANY OFFERS. We also want buyers to fully understand precisely what it is they are purchasing. In the specific case of Vinyl Records, where we would normally provide detailed description with pictorial images, examination and inspection upon its arrival should never take a buyer any more than 2 DAYS to determine that the item received is the item purchased, and that it's condition is as described. Therefore in that 2 day window after the item is received, the buyer is required to contact the seller to report any deficiencies. If a prospective buyer is not 100% certain of what they're viewing on an auction they would be well advised to pass on purchasing. We don't want anyone to buy an item, pay for it, then receive it, only for us to have to wait 2 full weeks before it might be determined by the buyer that he or she suddenly and unexpectedly has an issue. Blind siding sellers in this manner, will only stoke a possibility for dispute and argument regarding whether a possible return or refund is justified. That puts a seller in an awkward financial position as well and one that we would prefer to avoid. It's been our experience in over 50 years of buying collecting & selling, that there have been buyers, who we like to refer to as "Knit Pickers", not to mention some of whom have been found to have actually damaged the item purchased while in their possession (either accidentally or intentionally) and then tell us that "it was received that way". Therefore it has become our policy that all items are always "PHOTOGRAPHED & INSPECTED" prior to packaging as a protective measure in an effort to avoid any any potential disputes. (We feel this is a FAIR POLICY. If any potential buyer feels we've either omitted or not explained something properly, or that we are being unfair in some way, please let us know how we can improve. Suggestions are always welcome. ... 6/17). Thanks for watching!

All vinyl records are sold on the basis of their collectibility, rarity, scarcity, with special consideration in some cases given specifically to whom the artist happens to be. Also factored in is the physical and visual examination of play surfaces, labels, outer jacket and the inner sleeve (where applicable) and in most cases when there is obvious issues to the naked eye which would most certainly affect play. This would be a part of the item's description (however unless a record is of extreme rarity and does have value regardless of it's condition), we try to avoid ever selling severely damaged records. We point out that "THE BEATLES" are in a category of their own and in cases with many of their extremely rare items, we've sold some of their records even when they did have surface issues, however their value in any condition made these specific items retain certain value and collectability and a buyer would be made aware of it before we would ever sell it. We don't play test every vinyl since we have tens of thousands of vinyl records in stock, making it impossible to play each of them. Please remember this when buying and always ask questions prior to finalizing any purchase.
