WILHELM FURTWANGLER, VIENNA PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA
- BEETHOVEN SYMPHONY NO. 3 "EROICA"
URANIA URLP 7095, USA
This is the rarest Furtwangler record. The master tape seems to destroyed or lost for this recording; and
John Ardoin in his "The Furtwangler Record' says that this is the greatest of his Eroica's. Ardoin "The '44 whose spontaneity lifts the music to a higher expressive plane".. "it's fire is more warming"
It was recorded in Vienna 19-20 Dec. 1944.
Rarity of this record based on the fact that right after it was issued Furtwangler legally stopped the sale of this pirate recording and Urania had to pull them from the stores.
Record (NM/NM+) - Shiny, glossy, visually looks clear. Side A looks like new, Side B - looks almost like new - few tiny scuffs/lightmarks visible under the bulb light.
Label (EX) - clear , some spindle marks visible under the light
Cover (EX) - no damages on edges, front and backcover. Some wear on 2-3 corners (see photos)
Plays OK with mild to moderate surface noise (no marks, paperscuffs etc. on vinyl so this little noise/ticks should disappear after cleaning on professional VPI machine )
*25-10-2014 - I just cleaned (used liquid for vinyls+cloth and I also changed stylus for my old shure N44-7 - 70% surface noise disappeard. Now its hearable mainly on the beginning)
