Description

Still Sealed forty year old copy of the Jukebox EP The Chipmunks Sing The Beatles Hits.  The baggy shows wear from age and the ring on the back
is on the plastic and not the record jacket.  There appears to be a small 1/4" tear at front top edge but everything else is intact and in excellent condition.
This release features the soft picture sleeve which was intended to torn apart with the front cover as promotion art and the back featuring the title strips and mini LP covers for use in jukeboxes.

The Chipmunks sing the Beatles Hits is a tribute album of Alvin and the Chipmunks singing the hits of The Beatles. It was originally released in 1964 by Liberty Records on vinyl record, and consists of Chipmunk renditions of early Beatles hits. The reorganized Liberty Records reissued the album in 1982 (minus the songs "Twist And Shout" and "I Saw Her Standing There"). The first compact disc version (which used the 1982 reissue cover art, but included all twelve tracks) was issued in 1987 by EMI-Manhattan Records, and was re-released in 1995 on cassette and compact disc by Capitol Special Products (with the original front cover layout restored). The album was reissued on compact disc again by Capitol Records on April 29, 2008.

One single was released from the album ("All My Loving" b/w "Do You Want To Know A Secret") and a six-song stereo jukebox EP was also issued. On later pressings on the Sunset label and all reissues on vinyl, cassette and compact disc, the opening guitar chord on the song "Do You Want To Know A Secret" is partially cut off.  The stereo mix of the album mimics the stereo mixing of the early Beatles albums, with vocals predominantly in one channel and the instrumental backing in the other.  In a December 1982 Goldmine magazine interview, Ross Bagdasarian, Jr. remembered that his father "thought it would be a cute idea for a Chipmunk record and he spoke with the Beatles. When he was in London, he even met the Beatles, who were very supportive of the idea."

The six songs on this jukebox LP are Please Please Me, Do You Want To Know a Secret?, Twist and Shout, A Hard Days Night, I Saw Her Standing There and I Want To Hold Your Hand.

In the 1960s and 1970s, record companies released EP versions of long play (LP) albums for use in jukeboxes. These were commonly known as "compact 33s" or "little LPs". They played at 33? rpm, were pressed on 7-inch vinyl and frequently had as many as 6 songs. What made them EP-like was the fact that some songs were omitted for time purposes, and the tracks deemed the most popular were left on. Unlike most EP's before them and most 7-inch vinyl in general these were issued in stereo.
