78 RPM -- Duke Ellington, Brunswick 4044, EE+ "Black Beauty" mispressing - Jazz
ARTIST: Duke Ellington (as The Washingtonians) / The Hotsy Totsy Gang .....NOT
LABEL: Brunswick 4044
TITLES: Jubilee Stomp / Black Beauty (rare take) instead of Don't Mess Around With Me
Sometimes what you see is not what you get as is the case here. Brunswick 4044 is supposed to pair Duke Ellington's "Jubilee Stomp" with the orphan side "Don't Mess Around With Me" from Irving Mills Hotsy Totsy Gang's first Brunswick session - except some rare West Coast pressings erroneously have mx E27093, a take of "Black Beauty", instead of E27903 Mills "Don't Mess Around With Me" as per the label. This is not the usual take of Ellington's "Black Beauty" as released on Brunswick 4009. This take was only pressed in Los Angeles and is a very rare pressing anomaly, especially in this condition. Check the March 21, 1928 Brunswick session in Rust. From the Ken Swerilas collection.. WAIT FOR SECOND INVOICE - THE ONE NOT AUTOMATICALLY GENERATED BY EBAY IMMEDIATELY AFTER CLOSE OF AUCTION.
