Check this out! We’re happy to have found a spare copy of this lost LP, an unequalled masterpiece of psyched-out genius ROBERT CALLENDER. You won’t believe what’s on this LP!
The facts: -in the 60’s Bobby recorded a couple of soul sides - in the late 60’s Bobby tripped out on LSD and recorded a couple of spaced-out psychedlic sitar sugar trips, one produced by Alan Lorber
What happened after? Believe it or not: Bobby Callender got deeply inspired by the french painting movement of the IMPRESSIONISTS, urging him to record the TRIBUTE ALBUM on auction here.
It’s improbable, but this is a concept album by a afro-american musician on French impressionism. If you know his psychedelic LPs, you know that Bobby is master of over-inspired feeling, and here he is trying to become a French impressionist. A genuinely pathetic project…… BUT! Play it a few times and you’ll get TOTALLY hooked. This man is FOR REAL! The arrangements, by Mark Suozzo are incredibly deep. This reaches the level of Leroy Hutson’s self-titled LP, and if you know that LP you know we’re talking about something here. Why this LP was only released in Holland on the PHILIPS label, in a very low number, remains a mystery. Or maybe the mystery is that it was released at all? Anyway, it’s nearly impossible to find in Holland, and out of the 696 google hits on robert callender there is not a single one referring to his Impressionism-suite. A true lost masterwork.
When you’re getting into Bobby’s LP, you’ll start to realise that something was happening during the recordings. A spaced-out fellow dedicating a whole album to French 19th century painters… the session musicians must have thought “who is this WEIRD DUDE???”. But during the rehearsal everybody must have started to slowly to dig Bobby’s vibe…… and finally getting TOTALLY INTO IT. Pathetic from the outside, FOR REAL from the inside, this mystical madman. And the result was a incredibly insprired Lp, as VERY FEW albums are, this just steals your heart and soul. When, or if, he is no more his own words on MONET may very well be applied to himself: A visionary of Time and Space and the Light. He died spiritually a success, leaving behind a legacy of heavenly bliss

For a few life has truly been, For the most part a tragedy, And Vincent Van Gogh was one who suffered Need I say anymore? Can a man be so torn From the first day that he's born, Or does it take time, or something forelorn? Need I say anymore? Mystical madman, yes, mystical but a very sad man was he Tr6s triste A kind of Steppenwoif, if you know what I mean A mystical madman, yes, mystical but very sad man was he Tres triste Not even Theo or Gaughin or a prostitute could fulfill his needs But can anyone deny his love for life? But then why attempt suicide? Or was there something else he saw in the light? Need I say anymore? A mystical madman, yes, mystical but truly a very, very sad man
