Click to view supersized image In October of 1913 the Edison Diamond Disc Record was introduced by Edison Laboratories. Edison Discs, about a quarter of an inch thick, recorded the sound vertically in the groove rather than laterally, and sounded best when played on Edison's Diamond Disc Phonographs. The two combined resulted in an audio fidelity superior to other home record players available at that time. Edison's records didn't play well on competitor's home record systems and both Edison's phonographs and records were more expensive. Despite the higher cost for the player and records, Edison Discs briefly grew to become the third best selling brand in the United States, (Victor and Columbia Records were the major competitors). World War I brought shortages in necessary materials to produce records and the quality declined, resulting in a decline of Edison's market share. Since not as many of these records were produced, it's not easy to find ones in this very nice condition. The titles on this record by JACK KAUFMAN AND THE 7 BLUES BABIES are: THAT'S MY WEAKNESS NOW (BUD GREEN-SAM H STEPT) and BUTTERNUT (HARRY WOODS). The record is in remarkable condition - no scratches, wear around the center hole on the label, and no chips.
