Description

What It Is: This is the original US mono pressing of the Monkees' 5th album from 1968. It contains the hits "Daydream Believer" and "Valleri," as well as Nesmith's "Tapioca Tundra," which just inched into the Top 40

This is somewhat of a holy grail for Monkees' collectors -- while many other countries folded down stereo tracks to produce their mono album, this US pressing contains true mono tracks.

The downside is that this album has had significant play and the sound quality suffers. Please see the condition section below for details. However, it is still an enjoyable play, particularly earlier on the sides before the symptoms of overplay become apparent. Also, my play grading was performed with a stereo cartridge -- if you play it with a mono cartridge, you may find that it sounds better than I have graded it (different stylus shape and/or position in the groove, as well as canceling or elimination of vertical playback noise).

The original Colgems inner sleeve, including listings for the first 5 Monkees albums, is included and is in VG+ shape (no tears, minor wrinkles, a couple of very minor stains

Details:

discs: 1 12" vinyl LP
label: Colgems Records
catalog #: COM-109
country of origin: US
copyright (generally, release) year: 1968
shipping weight: 1 pound, 6 ounces

Condition:

Jacket: VG/VG-: some ring wear apparent at the top and bottom of the front cover and bottom of the back cover. A little staining on the front, within 1 1/" inches of the spine. Cracks/splits of the spine: 4" at the top, 3" at the bottom, back cover significantly better than the front, with a little ring wear apparent on the otherwise white background.
Record: sides start at VG+, end up as VG- by the end of the side: (play graded) some background noise, but the bigger problem is groove distortion on louder signals that get worse as groove gets closer to the center of the record (presumably from being played with a work stylus or misaligned cartridge). Almost no scratches or pops. Side 1 is worse than side 2 (side 1 may fall to G+ during the last song on the side).

Grading standards:

All items are visually graded, and if they've been play graded that will be noted. I follow Goldmine grading standards. My grading is conservative, at least as good as I would expect from anyone that I would buy from.

Payment:

I accept PayPal or personal checks (personal checks must clear before I ship). If you must return the item, it must be in the same condition that I sent it, but I will refund your full purchase price and return shipping cost within the USA (outside of the USA, I'll refund the bid price, but you must pay for return shipping unless I've made a serious error, in which case I'll pay shipping too) -- I guarantee your satisfaction.

Shipping cost and Insurance:

Within the USA: I ship via the US Postal Service, priority and media mail. Costs are based on the shipping weight and package size. Please contact me for shipping to other locations. As always, if your winning bid is above $50, I will pay for insurance within the USA.

Outside of the USA: I'm willing to ship outside of the USA, cost based on the winner's address and size and weight of the package. I usually insist on airmail for reasonable delivery time and better handling. I state the shipping size and weight in the ad so that you'll have an idea of cost, though final determination of shipping cost will occur when the auction completes. Unfortunately I can't offer free insurance as it often gets quite expensive for overseas shipment, however, I strongly advise that you select insurance as I cannot be responsible for delivery in another country.

Thanks for looking and bidding!
