THE BEATLES - 'YELLOW SUBMARINE'

1969 UK *ODEON EXPORT* PRESSING LP

We have just been commissioned to sell a large and important private collection of UK Beatles records. The majority of listings presented this week are from that collection, with more to follow over the coming weeks. The collection contains some of the rarest UK pressed discs which are unlikely to come onto the open market again in the forseeable future.

I'm very proud to be able to offer here one of the world's rarest UK pressed Beatles LP. At the time of this album's release in January 1969, the 'Apple Records' trademark was not yet registered in some overseas territories where EMI sold records to - in this case Portugal. It was therefore necessary to press discs especially for these territories, which is why this LP appears on the 'ODEON' label instead of Apple. Only an extremely limited quantity were pressed and are today rarely are offered for sale.

This amazingly rare disc bears a black and silver ODEON label with the catalogue number: PPCS 7070

The label rims carry the 'Gramophone Co. Ltd.' and 'Made in Gt. Britain' wording.

Matrix numbers: YEX 715-1 & YEX 716-1

Stamper codes: 2,4/GO & 2/RR

Disc weight: 147g

The disc is housed within a front laminated, tri-flipback 'Garrod & Lofthouse' printed stereo with its original red & gold 'ODEON' sticker covering the Apple logo on the rear panel.

A small record shop tag is also adhered next to the sticker for 'SINFONIA' in the 'Av. de Roma' (Portugal).

A plain white 'Patent no.' inner-sleeve is also present.

CONDITION

Disc

Labels: 1. EXCELLENT 2. EXCELLENT -

As you can see, both are clean and bright. Both have a moderate collection of spindle trails around each centre hole with a small section of paper missing from the centre of the side 2 hole.

Visual: VERY GOOD +

Both playing surfaces are extremely clean and retain all of their original deep-gloss shine with no dulling or 'bag-rash' marking. Inspection in strong daylight shows up just two or three light surface marks, but nothing I would call a scratch on either side. Closer examination directly beneath my powerful halogen desk lamp reveals numerous light wispy hairline marks but certainly nothing 'feelable' or anything likely to affect play. Both sides of this amazing rarity lie 100% flat on the turntable when playing.

Play: EXCELLENT

This copy has received a moderate amount of careful play and there is no significant deterioration to the sound quality throughout or any major faults. My single careful play check at volume uncovered a hint of intermittent light background but definitely no clicks, pops, jumps or any other such fault or interference.

Cover

VERY GOOD

A clean & strong exmaple with a vibrant front panel which has a little toning to the white areas, which is normal for these early-type covers. There are also a handful of 'thumbnail' creases towards the opening edges and a few wrinkles to the spine but no major wear or creasing. All corners have slight storagewear but no heavy bumps or split and there is minor wear to the opening edges. The rear panel has some moderate handling and storage marking but is free from any writing or missing paper. The gold 'Odeon' sticker is fully intact with just a touch of wear to its right edge but certainly no evidence of removal or replacement. All flipbacks are fully intact and both the seams and the spine are smooth, unstressed and unsplit.

**PLEASE NOTE: This item is located in and will be shipped from AUSTRIA. 1st class international postage to UK addresses will be 6.50 GBP**

Our grading is strict & conservative grading under strong daylight & directly beneath a halogen desk lamp to UK 'RECORD COLLECTOR' standards.

We carefully play every record I sell on an EMT 950 transcription turntable fitted with a 'TSD 15' cartridge at volume and list all visual and audible faults.

Every image in this listing has been taken by ourselves (with a Canon G3 camera) and are of the actual item for sale. We do not copy from other listings or use stock images.

Each record is professionally & securely packaged in custom-made record mailing boxes with the disc removed from the cover.
