Description
dee gee MG1004 : DIZZY GILLESPIE Vol.2
A rare 10" LP on Dizzy's own label from the early 1950's - volume 1 is also listed. Gillespie leads a group completed by Bill Graham (bar), Jay Jay Johnson (tb), Milt Jackson (vbs), Percy Heath (b) and Art Blakey (d). Joe Carrol (voc) is also heard on some tracks. This has deep groove yellow labels with simple black printing, housed in a sleeve, printed only on the front - a great Burt Goldblatt drawing.
Side 1 'They Can't Take That Away From Me parts 1 & 2'/'The Bluest Blues'
Side 2 'Swing Low, Sweet Cadillac'/'Oo-Shu-Be-Do-Be'/'I'm In A Mess'
CONDITION/DESCRIPTION: The disc is EtoE+/E (VG+toVG++/VG+) with a few light to very light scratches, visible under a bright 'grading' light. There is also some general groove wear visible, more on side 2 than on side 1. The cover is E (VG+), with some edge rubbing, particularly along the top seam and minor corner damage, including creasing around the top left. Near to the bottom left there are two very small, light round stains, together with other very minor surface dirt. On the back, a previous owner has written (neatly in blue ink) the personnel used on the session.
