This is a very rare jazz record by Lloyd Mcneil(flute) and Marshall Hawkins(bass) titled "Tanner Suite" released in 1969 on ASHA #2Monaural based in Washington D.C..The Tanner Suite is the successful result of the interaction of musician-composers Lloyd Mcneil and Marshall Hawkins with the paintings of the Black American expatriate artist,Henry Ossawa Tanner(1859-1937).Organized by the Frederick Douglas Institute,Capitol Hill, the first national exhition honoring Henry O.Tanner's Collection of fine arts in Washington D.C. on july 23,1969 some three decades after his death in Paris where he spent most of his life. The two musicians-composers moved into the high ceilinged marble exhibit hall and "communed" with the paintings of this mystical American painter. The Tanner Suite is a beautifully sensitive and appropiate tribute to an extraordinary American painter and is an improvisational response to the art of Henry O. Tanner's paintings(excerpts taken from the liner notes). The record is in VG++ condition, for about 30 seconds or more of the beginning there is a small pop from a scratch but the rest is in very good condition. The cover is in very good condition with some ring wear and a two inch seam split on the bottom center also on the back seam there is some beginnings of a split on the upper and bottom corners .Buyer pays for shipping $3.50 ,Intl rates $12.00 air $6.00 ground. Thanks for looking...
