***PLEASE DO NOT BID UNLESS YOU HAVE READ ALL SHIPPING AND PAYMENT INFO. THANK YOU***
Thanks for looking at my auction, which is for possibly the nicest copy you'll ever find of what is considered by many to be the most influential rock album of all time:
A like new, Mono (V-5008), US Yellow Label Promo of "The Velvet Underground & Nico" on Verve Records, still in the shrinkwrap with the "torso" back cover and an untouched, unpeeled banana.
I purchased this from a record dealer 2-3 years ago, and it was still sealed. I was told that it came from a person who worked for a newspaper in the late sixties, who received the LP to review. The LP was never opened to review, placed on a shelf, and the rest is history.
I do not collect sealed records. I paid a very high price for this record, for the joy and priviledge of being able to open it and play it. I love original pressings in the best possible shape, and you couldn't ask for any better than this LP. Much to my surprise, when I opened the LP, it turned out to be a yellow label promo, making it much more rare and also a great deal more valuable in brand new condition. If you are unfamiliar with promotional LPs, they were usually the very first copies to come from the pressing plants, making them the freshest, cleanest copies off of the stampers. I have played the LP only four (4) times and it sounds incredible. You couldn't ask for a truer representation of the analog master tapes than this LP.
While I hate to part with it, the music on this record has far more impacted someone else's life than mine, and it will be enjoyed more on their turntable than on my shelf. I have a respectable reserve on this LP, because it's too important to part with for nothing. To somewhat quote a fellow ebay seller: "Good luck finding another like new, yellow label promo copy still in the shrinkwrap with the torso cover and an unpeeled banana."

As I have said, the jacket is still in the shrinkwrap, and has minimal wear apart from a touch on the shrinkwrap. There are two small areas where the shrinkwrap is slightly pulled together (see photo). They like small scratches in the photo, but are not, just little areas where the shrinkwrap is jumbled together. One is about 1 inch and the other about two. This obviously doesn't affect the jacket and is just a factory error. The jacket is near mint, plain and simple. There are no seam splits, cut-out marks or punch holes. Anything that looks like wear in the photos is most likely a flash reflection. Please inquire if you have any concerns. Also included is the original Verve inner sleeve, with a small corner bend from the factory, but no seam splits.
The disc plays beautifully from start to finish, with barely any noise at all. Again, I played it a total of 4 times, so it is now "broken in", with any factory residues removed from the grooves. It is ready to play beautifully for it's new owner. The labels are clean, with no spindle marks. While I am hard pressed to grade a record as mint, the disc is clean, shiny, and as close to mint as possible.
I am also listing a Near Mint "White Light/White Heat" yellow label promo, also in the shrinkwrap with the ghost in the corner. Please check my other auctions if that interests you.
Feel free to e-mail me with any questions, through E-bay or at Kindtaper@aol.com.
SHIPPING COST:
Shipping is free for the winning bidder. The LP will be packed very well and shipped via registered mail with insurance equal to the amount of the winning bid. If you are on the east coast, depending on your location, I might just bring you the LP. I hate to trust a shipping company with such a valuable and irreplaceable record. If you are overseas, I will have to declare the auction value of the LP on the customs form. You might be subject to duties from customs. Please be aware of this before bidding.
OTHER SHIPPING AND PAYMENT INFO
All LPs are shipped well packed in specially made boxes manufactured exclusively for shipping LPs. Records are carefully packaged between pre-cut cardboard filler pads to prevent them from getting bent or damaged during transit. All LPs, new or used, are sent in brand new polypropylene protective sleeves to protect and enhance the beauty of your investment. I also clean and vacuum any LP that is not sealed on a VPI professional record vacuum, so the LP will have the best possible sound when it arrives to you. I ship all LPs in the above manner, no matter the final bid outcome. If the LP you win is not sealed, I will ship the record or records in their inner sleeves on the outside of and next to the jacket to avoid seam splitting.
PLEASE DO NOT BID UNLESS YOU CAN PAY VIA PAYPAL WITHIN 2 DAYS OF THE AUCTION'S CLOSING DATE. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL FORFEIT YOUR BID AND THE LP WILL BE SOLD TO ANOTHER PARTY.

According to some past auctions I have seen, the two small "jumbled" areas in the shrinkwrap are common for this record. Here is some additional info on this LP, courtesy of this website:

On Jul-21-05 at 05:28:47 PDT, seller added the following information: I'd just like to thank all of the interested bidders and watchers. I have a feeling that this is going to be my most successful auction yet. If you decide to bid, know that you are bidding on one of the nicest copies of this record that exist, AND it's a yellow label promo. A non-promo Mono version in the shrinkwrap sold for over $3000 a couple of years ago. Check out www.popsike.com for verification. Good luck!
