Description

A VERY NEAR MINT (EX SHOP STOCK) COPY OF THIS ULTRA RARE KENYAN 78 FROM INFLUENTIAL GUITARIST BEN BLASTUS ON THE CMS LABEL !

I HAVE GOT A BABY   b/w  MPENZI NIPE PETE  (Both sung in Swahili)

Towards the end of the 1950's Congolese musicians such as Jean Bosco Mwenda and Eduourd Masengo produced music that was popular among Kenyans.  Manufacturing firms, such as Coca-Cola and Aspro, used the musicians to promote their brands and organised promotional tours of the musicians around the country.

Their music

influenced local Kenyan musicians such as Daudi Kabaka, John Mwale, Paul Mwachupa, Fadhili William, Fundi Konde and Ben Blastus Obulawayo , who went on in turn to influence more modern kenyan artists such as Henry Makobi who recorded an album in their finger picking style in 1991.

The Capitol Music Store was based in Nairobi and issued records from the late 50's and into the 70's. This is one of the first of a batch of 78s I have come across, and these 78s are exceedingly rare !!

I believe this 78 was actually pressed in the sixties and it is manufactured from a very hard vinyl rather than shellac.

More records (45's) can be found on the CMS label here http://www.kentanzavinyl.com/Site/CMS.html
