Description

The First 55 LPs From The Initial Release June 1948. LPs are play graded Vg+ AND BETTER, many are NM. Sleeves are graded G AND BETTER, some are missing the flap on the back, some have rips or tape, some are NM. These are the original Steinweiss designed top opening envelopes made of kraft paper. These first 55 were numbered in alphabetical order by composer from 4002-Bach to 4055-Wagner. 4001 was saved for Mendelssohn because the violinist, Nathan Milstein was a hot property for Columbia. Many of the remaining LPs up to 4085 in this first release came in the side open cardboard sleeve because Columbia dealers raised hell about the cheap envelopes. The numbers 4055 to 4085 were no longer in alphabetical order.

It has taken 30 years to gather this collection. That was me you saw on hands and knees flipping thru a box of dusty LPs between the flea market gun dealer and the guy selling live chickens.
