Description

Here is an affordable Vg/Vg+ copy of the infamous and highly sought after The Beatles "Yesterday And Today" Butcher Cover Paste Over Second State record album. This landmark of record collecting was released in June 1966 on Capitol Records and is the significantly  harder to find Stereo version of the second state of this historic record. The V formed by the under the paste over image of Ringo Starr's black sweater is faintly but definately visible to the right of the trunk.  There is no evidence of anyone trying to peel the outer cover away which is just what you want as a collector looking for a second state butcher

The outer record cover I grade as being overall in VG+ condition! There is some very light ring wear on the face of the front cover and some significant shelf wear on the bottom. There is a 4.5 inch seam split on the bottom right hand side of the cover and a bit of corner bumping on the bottom left hand side. You can also see the dark stereo banner underneath the paste over clearly on the left top of the record cover.

The vinyl is an over all strong VG condition. Side one is VG- with two wide noticable surface abrasions which are not deep. Side two is a strong VG almost a VG+.

This one is mainly purchased for the cover and this one is pretty nice.

The following excerpt  is from the Discogs site:

This release is notorious for it's controversial original cover photograph, known as the "Butcher Cover".

The initial response to the cover from the estimated 60,000 advance copies was so negative that Capitol recalled all 750,000 manufactured copies from its distributors for repackaging with a more conventional photograph.

Butcher covers are generally divided into 3 categories:

First state - Original unaltered version.

Second state - First state cover with the new artwork pasted over (generally known as a "Trunk Cover").
Third state - A second state copy where the pasted-on Trunk cover image has been (fully or partially) removed, revealing the Butcher cover photograph underneath.

The notoriety and scarcity of the Butcher cover has made it one of the most expensive and sought-after Beatles releases.
