Description

In this auction:

  • PLEASE PLEASE ME” b/w “FROM ME TO YOU” by The Beatles

  • This is Vee Jay Records 581.

  • It is a 7-inch record that plays at 45 RPM.

  • THIS IS A RARE VEE JAY PROMOTIONAL ISSUE WITH WHITE LABELS AND BLUE CROSSBARS.

  • This is a VERY EARLY BEATLES PROMOTIONAL RECORD that was issued in early January, 1964 as “BEATLEMANIA” began to grip the U.S.

  • There were two versions of this Promo Record issued by Vee Jay. One had the song titles on both sides printed on one line, and the other had the song titles on both sides printed on two lines.

  • The record in this auction, with the song titles printed on both sides on two lines, has the higher value of the two Promo Records issued.

  • PROMOTIONAL COPY” IS PRINTED in BLUE INK TWICE on EACH LABEL. (Check images.)

  • As you probably know, PROMO RECORDS were ONLY released to radio stations/DJs for airplay to promote the band/recording artists, song, and/or LP. They were produced in VERY SMALL QUANTITIES and were NOT available for sale to the public. This makes them VERY sought after due to their limited access and limited quantities.

  • This BEATLES PROMOTIONAL RECORD is in VG to VG MINUS (VG-) CONDITION with numerous light scratches/hairlines/scuffs mostly surface, but none are “feel-able”.  The vinyl has lots of gloss. The LABELS are QUITE CLEAN with minimal wear and very light aging/soiling. Sometimes DJs wrote notes and/or placed stickers on the labels of promo records. BUT NOT THIS ONE! There are NO stickers, NO sticker stains, NO tears, and NO writing on the labels of this promo record.

  • Although this Beatles Vee Jay Promo Record may have a lower grade, you probably know how really tough it is to find early Beatles Promo Records on, for example, the Vee Jay, Tollie and Swan labels at all!

It will be a GREAT addition to your Beatles collection!

Thanks to the Price Guide for the Beatles American Records by Perry Cox and Frank Daniels for some information about this record.
