ONE OF THE HARDEST PICTURE SLEEVES TO FIND IN SUCH A CLEAN CONDITION

THE BEATLES ~ PLEASE PLEASE ME AND FROM ME TO YOU (1964)

ORIGINAL VINTAGE 1964 “SINGLES OF SIGNIFICANCE FROM VEE-JAY” SINGLE EP MAILER

In January, 1964 Vee-Jay Records released a 45 RPM 7” EP, combining the A-sides from Vee-Jay’s first two Beatles EPs. Realizing the visual appeal of The Beatles, Vee-Jay prepared a white picture placing the black and white version of the photograph used earlier that month on the “Introducing... The Beatles” album. The large vivid red “The Beatles” banner definitely serves as the foundation of the artwork’s composition, which also features the black Vee-Jay brackets logo and “Please Please Me and From Me To You” song titles. The image on the original picture sleeve is sharp as oppose to a blurry one found on the counterfeit copies. The copy listed up for an auction is a vivid example of the original and authentic 1st print picture sleeve. This copy’s sleeve is one of the cleanest and beautiful sleeves I’ve ever come across anywhere. The clean white vintage surface of the picture sleeve doesn’t have any writing, residue, tape, soiling or wear. Any ring wear on the front and back of the sleeve is absent. The picture sleeve doesn’t have any splits, tears or missing pieces. This listing includes an incredibly rare original vintage 1964 “Singles of Significance From Vee-Jay” single EP mailer. Vee-Jay Records used these customized 7¾" x 7 13/16” mailing envelopes to send its EPs to radio stations and record reviewers. This copy contains the 1st print Vee-Jay Records multicolor band oval logo labels having the 1st pressing Mono catalog number “VJ-581”, thick print with "VJ" before the catalog number, publishing information on two lines and a space between "THE BEATLES" and the catalog number. The full matrix stampers are as follows: Side 1 (Please Please Me) - 63-2967 URJ T1; Side 2 (From Me To You): - 63-3218-4 URJ T11. The runout groove of both sides contains the handwritten “URJ” letters, identifying that the lacquer cut was done by Jerry DeClercq at Universal Recording Studio.

The original picture sleeve is very clean and is graded as Excellent. It doesn't have any splits, writing, soiling, wear or ring wear, only having a barely noticeable small light crease in the upper right hand corner on the front. It's indeed very hard to find this picture sleeve in such a beautiful clean condition. Just like the picture sleeve, the Vee-Jay Records red and black inner sleeve is in great condition and is graded as Near Mint. The original 1964 "Singles of Significance from Vee-Jay" single EP mailer is in Excellent Minus condition and is fully intact without having any splits or tears, just having some very light signs of use. I grade the vinyl as Very Good Plus due to it having some very light non-feelable surface hairlines and marks along with some very light scuffs from the inner sleeve. The clean labels are in Excellent Minus condition and don't have any spindle marks, just some very light scuffing on the rim. Great audio.
