In January, 1964 Vee-Jay Records released an 45 RPM 7” EP, combining the A-sides from Vee-Jay’s first two Beatles EPs. Realizing the visual appeal of The Beatles, Vee-Jay prepared a white picture placing the black and white version of the photograph used earlier that month on the “Introducing the Album” album. The large vivid red “The Beatles” banner definitely serves as the foundation of the artwork’s composition, which also features the black Vee-Jay brackets logo and “Please Please Me and From Me To You” song titles. The image on the original picture sleeve is sharp as oppose to a blurry one found on the counterfeit copies. The copy listed up for this auction is a vivid example of the original and authentic 1st print picture sleeve. This copy’s sleeve is one of the cleanest and beautiful sleeves I’ve ever come across anywhere. The clean white vintage surface of the picture sleeve doesn’t have any writing, residue, tape, soiling or wear. Any ring wear on the front and back of the sleeve is absent, perhaps just only a few super light hints of it in a couple of small spots. The picture sleeve doesn’t have any splits, tears or missing pieces. The sleeve was released with five different label variations. This copy contains the 1st print Vee-Jay Records multicolor band labels having the 1st pressing Mono catalog number “VJ-581”, thick print with "VJ" before the catalog number, publishing information on two lines and space between "THE BEATLES" and catalog number. Very early 1st Monarch Los Angeles plant pressing with the “MR in Circle” factory identifier in the runout grooves. The full matrix stampers featuring the Delta numbers are as follows: 63-2967 AudioMatrix DELTA 46527 MR in Circle RA / 63-3218 AudioMatrix DELTA 47843 MR in Circle RA. The runout groove of both sides also contain the “AudioMatrix” machine stamp. Aside from a couple of very light marks in the runout groove that can be seen under a strong light source, the vinyl itself doesn’t have any hairlines and scuffs from the picture sleeve, and appears to be and most likely has never been played. The clean glossy labels are in Near Mint Minus condition and don't have any spindle marks. The current and the upcoming auctions will feature the records from a private collection, whose majority of copies is a great example of how one should take care and treat his record collection, with not only the sealed copies, but also the opened copies being in outstanding condition. As a bonus to this incredibly rare picture sleeve EP we're including an original 1964 set of four 12½" x 12½" line portrait drawings of The Beatles with the original 13½" x 13¾" kraft paper envelope.
