Description

PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question.   OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week.   Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback.   We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery.   We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Thank you for your interest and support. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SHIPPING: USA ~ 1 LP $4.00 Media; 2-4 discs $5.00; .50 each additional disc Priority rates vary by area; please inquire.   CANADA ~ 1 LP 8.50; 2 discs $10.00; 3 discs $11.50; over 4 please contact us for shipping costs.   AUSTRALIA, THAILAND, JAPAN ~ 1 LP $18.00; 2 discs $23.00; 3 discs $27.00; 4 discs $32.00. ! TOP M- CLEAN !

ORIGINAL 1967 first pressing of the r&b laced rock band from Philadelphia at their peak... they scored the timeless smash hit "Expressway To Your Heart" in 1967...here's a nice copy of their (first) original album from 43 years ago...

The SOUL SURVIVORS came together after meeting in a car crash on the New Jersey Turnpike. The vocal group of Kenney Jeremiah, Charles and Richard Ingui were in one car and Chuck Trois (guitar), Paul Venturini (Organ) and the rather anonymous Joe (drums) were in another car going the other way on a foggy night back in 1966.

The lead track, ‘Do You Feet It’ is introduced by the rousing pre-whistle rally cry, “When The Whistle Blows Anything Goes”. And ‘anything goes’ is so apt.

With a touch of The Doors and old R&B Rolling Stones spirit, you can see underground Mod fans going for that ‘authentic’ soul feel, particularly on ‘Too Many Fish In The Sea’.

The Sam Cooke take of ‘A Change Is Gonna Come’ is better than their version of ‘Please, Please, Please’ but you can see they must have been a great show band and the sleeve notes tell us there were road blocks (appropriately) when the Soul Survivors played gigs.

‘Expressway (To Your Heart)’ is genuinely worth some respect and has that northern soul crossover feel. A sharp 2 minutes 19 seconds on LP that apparently “sounded more and more like Jimi Hendrix, doubled up on LSD” the more they played it live.

You can see how they got to the ‘free’ thinking Ashanti-indo-jam of ‘Taboo - India’; it’s like modal acid man. The Grateful Dead would have stretched this track to at least to one side of a triple album live set.

They get the ‘big’ treatment including ‘Explosion In Your Soul’ (with sound effects and ‘Hold On I’m Comin’ riff); ‘Impossible Mission’ and ‘Poor Man’s Dream’ are even better.

As an interesting aside, you’ve got to check Steve “Sandy Kay” Leigh’s character assassination of Richard Ingui (originally posted online over 10 years ago!) after being a member of the Soul Survivors for 12 months with his Hammond organ and how the experience led to Leigh’s move to Stax Studios in Memphis. You can hear in this LP the conflict between the soul and the stoned (particular, ‘Hey Gyp’). Richard made his apologies (in 2003) to Steve for past youthful excesses. Just goes to show it’s never too late.
