Description

THELONIOUS MONK at MINTONS May 1941 .... JAZZ
10" Lacquer / Acetate disc ... 3 drive holes are present under the labels. They're visible when held up to light.
This is a VERY RARE recording of an Iconic Jazz Player very early in his career. This is a great opportunity for a true collector of Monk or Jazz lovers.

Estoteric Records ... Greenwich Music Shop ... 75 Greenwich Ave ... New York City

Side 1 : " Mostly drums, crowd noises and THELONIOUS MONK solos at Minton's --- 1941"Side 2 : " More drums, noises and MONK at Minton's in MAY 1941"
This record was found in a vintage suitcase wrapped in a blanket ... same estate as the Record Lathe I have listed. This was the only record in the suitcase and the only jazz record in the house. Everything else was rare imported classical music. I have shown the suitcase just for reference but It's not part of the auction as I see no sense in shipping it.
This Acetate appears to be in fantastic condition with a beautiful shine, no scratches, chips, etc....I'm not a big Jazz guy myself but just the same I'd love to hear it. Just the same, I have not and will not play it for fear of damaging it.  The disc looks like it was made yesterday other than age discoloration to the labels.
Most likely this recording is from the early 50's. When have you seen or will see another just like this one?
Shipped FREE with USPS Media Mail ...  insurance is included.

** Added with 2 days left I auction : I made a mistake during listing. I did not make this auction visible and available globally. Although I will sell overseas at the buyers expense, I will move forward with the auction as is and not cancel the listing out of respect for current bidders.

** Also, The record was apparently recorded by Jerry Newman. He went on to found Esoteric Records in 1949 changing names in '57. More about Mr. Newman and his time at Mintons can be found at recordingpioneers.com
