Description
Known in their native Sweden as Steam Packet (a name they were unable to use in Britain due to the Long John Baldry/Rod Stewart revue of the same name), The Longboatmen only released one single in the UK, the legendary ‘Take Her Any Time”, which was issued by Polydor in November 1966. While visiting England to promote the single, the group took time out to record two tracks at Advision Studios in London’s New Bond Street. Those two songs, ‘Viva L’Amour’ and Mike d’Abo’s ‘Trouble And Tea’ (a blatant rip-off of ‘Day Tripper’), were released in Sweden in 1967 as by Steam Packet, but because of the commercial failure of ‘Take Her Anytime’, they didn’t appear in the UK.
This beautiful acetate would appear to be the sole surviving UK pressing of those two tracks, and therefore the only UK pressing of any Longboatmen/Steam Packet release other than the ‘Take Her Anytime’ single. It’s also the only pressing from the country where both songs were recorded. Interestingly, the typed label credits show that the group actually recorded both songs as the Longboatmen rather than as Steam Packet. Despite being a 45 year old acetate, it’s in beautiful condition, and even comes in an attractive green and white Advision studio custom sleeve. Almost certainly a unique item!<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
