What you make of it is entirely up to you - all I shall attempt in these notes is to provide a little background. It wasn't always going to be a concept record. In toying with the idea of using my songs, and having selected the favourites, I found that by placing them in an approximate chronological order, a progression became apparent from quarters I would not otherwise have been aware of, and this discovery, to me at least, was profound enough to warrant pursuing the idea, and to write a last song to crystallize the concept. One point I should like to make clear. I am not by nature a songwriter; over the last ten years I have been fed by the inspiration of the many fine people I have met in and around the community of St. Aidan's; and I have proved quite unable before or since to write a note outside of this context. It is thus the unique atmosphere of that community, and in particular the inspiration of their singers and musicians, that has given life and substance to "So Confusing and So Very Clear". The Folk Choir sing weekly at the 11:00am Family Mass at St. Aidan's Church, Coulsdon. Cantabile is a natural development from the Choir - a nine-strong group of past and present members, who enjoy the flexibility of smaller numbers.
