This is my MO: before listing I always clean LPs on a vacuum record cleaning machine and I always determine audio quality by playing the LP not just by visual inspection.
This is my listening equipment: highly revealing Yamaha PF-800 turntable (easily equal to an LP12), pre/power amps and B&W Matrix Reference speakers. For this LP I have used an Ortofon OM10 MM cartridge.
When this LP first came into my possession as part of an auction job lot I did not hold out much hope for its sound quality as the vinyl (lacking an inner sleeve) looked in poor condition with lots (and I mean lots) of surface scuffs and marks although no feelable scratches. So I was pleasantly surprised when I played it and it was much better than I expected. Side one begins with surface noise to the run in and track one, but it soon eases off as the side progresses and I found it easy to ignore. The LP is mono so you get a big central sound while the surface noise is more peripheral round the speakers. There are no sticks or jumps, no distortion and it is not a danger to your stylus. Overall side one is a good listening experience (I even played it twice). Side two is about the same, a little more surface noise because of some slower tracks, but still a decent listen in my opinion.
The single slip flipback cover is laminated on both sides. The laminate has cracked and lifted in places – mainly the spine (see photo) – but it’s in overall reasonable condition considering its age.
If you are looking for this LP for your collection, this one will certainly fit the bill until you eventually find a better copy (which will probably command a very high price) and if you never find that better copy, I think you will still be pretty happy with this one.
