Description

This is an Ultra-Rare ORIGINAL 1970 release on the ZONK label of the album SAINTE ANTHONY'S FYRE, a highly sought after favorite of record collectors and dealers. The album was recorded in Pennsauken, NJ by the group Sainte Anthony's Fyre, a group which is considered by most to be the ultimate basement hard rock group. Fewer than 1,000 of this first release were produced. The record's authenticy as an ORIGINAL 1970 pressing was recently verified in Princeton, NJ by a professional record appraiser. Although there are no dates on the record or sleeve, the etchings on both run out bands of NISE and other numbers, as well as the sleeve itself, date this record as a 1970 First Run Original. This extremely rare album is a must have for any collector of landmark hard rock albums with historical significance. The fact that this find was discovered and purchaced at a sale in Berlin, NJ which is in the same county as Pennsauken, NJ lends more credence to it's authenticity. There were re-releases in 1987, 1996, and 2013 on various labels, but only one from 1970 on the ZONK label. The group was formed in 1968 by Greg Onushko(Ohm) who died in the 1980's. ACID ARCHIVES, the bible of underground rock said: "This legendary private press is rated as one of the ultimate local basement hard rock blowouts by many connoisseurs. Released early in 1970, the end result has some similarities to MC 5's hallowed KICK OUT THE JAMS, but I find this is a superior and more powerful album". POPULAR UK magazine that specializes in all things 60's and psychedelic proclaims: "a masterpiece of zonked out, fuzz-drenched hard rock". The record and sleeve are in good condition for their age of 49 years. The record has some very minor surface scratches and rub marks, but neither seem to affect playability or sound quality. The sleeve has a 4" split on the top right edge and a 1/2"split on the bottom right edge and some wear on the top left corner. (see the last three photos for these condition issues). There is some dirt/wear marks on both sides of the sleeve which can be expected. The paper inner sleeve has some minor tanning. The graphics and photos on the sleeve look great.
