The only reason this 12-song collection doesn't rate a lot higher is that it has been supplanted across the decades by countless subsequent compilations devoted to Ray Charles' catalog. But taken on its own terms, in the summer of 1962, its very existence was testimony to the phenomenal appeal of Charles' music -- he'd only been with ABC-Paramount for a little over two years, and had amassed a sufficient number of hits to justify this collection, and was so hot at the time that a compilation of this sort was seen as a logical extension of his then-current output. The song order isn't remotely chronological, and the range of material varied widely in familiarity -- at the time, "I Can't Stop Loving You" and the album Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music were burning up the charts, and it made sense to include numbers such as "I'm Gonna Move to the Outskirts of Town" and "I've Got News for You" (both of which had been only modest pop hits but good performers on the R&B charts), alongside major singles such as "Hit the Road Jack" and "One Mint Julep," in an effort to broaden his exposure. As it was, this record made it to number five, making it the second highest-charting album of his career up to that time, and also his first to chart in England (where a lot of aspiring rock & rollers and soul belters likely wore out its grooves). It still holds up nearly 56 years later, track for track, and can stand with any other hits compilation of its era, by any of Charles' contemporaries

(b)          The record is  apparently pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           The record is believed to come in its original stock inner sleeve.

(d)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

-        Cover has a tiny, barely visible cutout hole in one of the corners

-        Cover has JUST A HINT of ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 1   (VISIBLE ON BACK SIDE ONLY)

-        Cover shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.
