The nicest thing you can do for your stylus and your ears.

There have been so few vinyl LPs produced over the last 5 years that you should never pass up the opportunity to upgrade your collection. They're each very limited in their pressings and disappear with extraordinary quickness from the vinyl market. This causes prices to skyrocket because once they are gone, they are gone forever! Don't second-guess yourself with this chance to upgrade your collection because before you know it, the opportunity will have passed forever.

The nicest thing you can do for your stylus and your ears. The ultimate record -- the way music was meant to be heard.

180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl! Re-mastered by John Wood at Abbey Road Studios From Original Analogue Master Tapes!

An Authentic Reproduction of the 1970 First Pressing with Original Textured Sleeve, Audiophile Vinyl, Replica Shop Poster, Live Mini-Poster, Reprint of Nick's Handwritten Set List + Bonus Voucher with a Choice of Download Formats Including High Definition 24 Bit and Dubbed from Disc!

Following the huge success of Nick's third album "Pink Moon" on deluxe vinyl comes his second album "Bryter Layter" in a similar deluxe vinyl format.

The album is an exact replica of the original 1970 release: It is pressed on heavyweight audiophile vinyl, and remastered from 'near' original master tapes by the album's original engineer John Wood. For although the original tapes were unusable, John Wood had made a safety copy of the album in 1970 and it is from this that the new album has been struck.

It comes in a box containing the original shop poster, a smaller "Live" poster/brochure and a reprint of Nick's handwritten set list used for his live appearances, together with reproductions of the master tape and box lids. It is housed in an Island card inner bag in a single pocket textured sleeve just as the original release would have been.

Recent vinyl pressings of Bryter Layter have been poor quality, illegal counterfeits; this edition is as close to an original pressing as it is possible to get. Original copies change hands for high collectors prices.

After crafting a debut album full of beauteous, somber chamber-folk, Nick Drake pulled something of an about-face with the follow-up, Bryter Layter. With a bright, sparkling production and orchestrations that occasionally border on Easy Listening, the framework is light and airy where Five Leaves Left was dark and foreboding. The key, however, is that Drake's artfully expressed inner turmoil peeks through at every turn in the lyrics and in his understated-but-heartfelt vocal delivery.

"At the Chime of a City Clock" finds Drake facing existential despair at every turn, despite an almost-lugubrious string arrangement. Perhaps the crucial moment of Bryter Layter occurs on "Poor Boy", where female backing vocalists literally mock the singer's anguished laments. Clearly, for as much as Drake's heart and soul were bared in every note of his music, he was self-aware enough to know that his disillusioned-romantic view of the world was one that put him on the fringes of society. Of course, some 25 years later, his early-1970s work would find a much wider audience, even though the initial era of the sensitive singer/songwriter had long since passed.

Originally released November 1, 1970.

PINK MOON BOX SET - Pink Moon, folk-rocker Nick Drake's somber, solo acoustic album, replicated in its original 1972 form, packaged with poster, inserts and downloads

Re-mastered by John Wood at Abbey Road from the original 40-year-old analog master tapes

Replica shop poster, lyric sheet facsimile, and bonus voucher with a choice of download formats, all included

"Drake recorded his last album in a couple of nights, mailed the tapes to Island Records and checked himself into a psychiatric ward. If the music were as dark as the lyrics, it might be unlistenable. But Drake's soothing vocals and unadorned acoustic picking make the album unfold with supernatural tenderness." — Rolling Stone

For millions of viewers, a Volkswagen TV commercial in 1999 featuring Nick Drake's "Pink Moon" was the first time they had heard the 1972 song or its long-since-departed folk-rocker. Today, Drake's avid cult following continues to grow.

Three albums was all that Drake left the world before he passed away in 1974 at the age of 26. Pink Moon, Drake's third and final album, was released by Island Records in 1972, featuring only Nick's vocals, guitar and piano. This is Drake's sparest album and it's filled with haunting tracks that have him singing moodily along. Drake's abiilty to come up with complicated jazzy chords on his guitar is highlighted by the way this album gives him a warm, intimate space in which to unwind. Featuring the tracks "Pink Moon," "Place To Be," "Road," "Parasite," "Ride," and "From The Morning."

Now, to mark the album's 40th anniversary, Universal Music re-presents the album in an exactly-replicated vinyl pressing, remastered by the original co-producer and engineer: John Wood at Abbey Road Studios. The album is pressed on heavyweight vinyl with the original gatefold sleeve, inner sleeve, paper labels, the promotional shop poster and a fascimile of Nick's handwritten lyrics to four of the songs, all housed in a box showing the original master tape box from which the vinyl was mastered.

For four years after the album's initial release, Drake appeared in the various Island Records' catalogs and album samplers, but album sales languished. His own reluctance to tour or otherwise promote his work allowed Drake to slip into the same also-ran bracket as Island's Claire Hamill and tir Na Nog, legends all. The initial 3,000 pressings sold poorly but never quite sold out and Island kept him in the catalog until Volkswagen used the title track to promote their new Cabriolet in the U.S. Nick's poorest-selling album became a best seller and the interest in all of his tiny canon blossomed. Original scarce first-pressing values soared and allowed inferior counterfeit bootleg vinyl editions to proliferate.

Desolation and isolation may permeate his songs, but Drake displayed his mastery of the acoustic guitar with a touch and flair unrivaled. This commemorative box set brings the somber beauty of his music to a new generation.

FAMILY  TREE -  All Analogue Audiophile Pressing!
180g Virgin Vinyl Double LP Mastered at Abbey Road!

Family Tree is a compilation of unheard and/or unreleased songs which include Nick Drake originals as well as obscure covers of songs by Jackson C. Frank, Dylan and Blind Boy Fuller.

Family Tree presents recordings that precede Nick Drake's three studio albums, Five Leaves Left, Bryter Layter and Pink Moon. Recorded in the 1960s at Nick's home and in Aix-En-Provence, France, these are period amateur home recordings that capture a burgeoning songwriting genius learning his trade. The songs range from folk and blues standards to early influential compositions by his mother Molly and recordings of Nick made by his colleague and arranger Robert Kirby at Cambridge University in 1968. They are presented here in their raw, lo-fidelity original condition, remastered by Nick's sound engineer John Wood, and are accompanied by an eight-page explanatory booklet.

Among the self-penned tunes are the haunting "Leaving Me Behind" and "Come Into the Garden". Also included are performances by his mother Molly and sister Gabrielle.

A TREASURY - As an introduction to the work of Nick Drake, this album competes with the Way to Blue collection. Except for Hazey Jane I & II, Cello Song, I Was Made To Love Magic, Place To Be and Road, all the tracks are the same although the sound quality is better on this one, at least as far as my copies are concerned.

Drake's individual albums are all classics but they are very much self-contained units. From the album Bryter Layter come Hazey Jane I and II, Poor Boy and Northern Sky. Five Leaves Left contributes Cello Song, Way To Blue and River Man, whilst the stark minimalist album Pink Moon supplies Place To Be, Pink Moon, From the Morning and Road. Black Eyed Dog comes from the posthumous Time Of No Reply album.

On Sweet Old World Lucinda Williams beautifully covered Which Will and Swans made a bloodcurdling version of Black Eyed Dog, found on their Various Failures 1988-1992 album. The Dream Academy dedicated the song Life In A Northern Town (1985) to Nick Drake. His song Mayfair had already been covered by Millie (of My Boy Lollipop fame) in 1970.

My complaint about both Way To Blue and Treasury is the omission of Fly, a song that first appeared on Bryter Later and was then included, in a different version, on Time of No Reply. In my opinion, it is one of his most moving songs. Besides that, this compilation contains a fair selection of Drake's eerily compelling music but it is still better to investigate the original albums.
