Description

SUPERB and HIGHLY LIMITED EMI reissue of this RARE and great UK psych pop MONSTER from 1968 - the self-titled album by McGough and McGear, featuring Paul McCartney's brother Mike McGear, poet Roger McGough and a host of all-star guests like Graham Nash, Jimi Hendrix, Spencer Davis, and brother Paul McCartney.  Originals are few and far between, and command several hundred dollars when and if they show up.  In 1990, EMI reissued the LP in EXTREMELY limited quantities, complete with informative inner sleeve.  Needless to say, they sold out immediately and the reissues are now as hard to find as the originals!  Here's one of those reissues - legitimate issue on EMI - cover and sleeve is like new, vinyl plays VG++ except for Side 2 Track 1 which has a pressing defect which causes it to pop during the duration - it's not a particularly good track anyway.  Musically, this is a very interesting LP with several all-time KILLER Rubble style psych pop tracks, "So Much In Love" and "Ex Art Student" being the strongest.  "So Much in Love" is classic crunchy trippy Chocolate Soup/Rubble style popsike with irresistible melody, trippy FX, swirling acid guitar and breathy backing vocals.  "Ex Art Student" is represented here in its complete, long form, and it's certainly one of the pinnacles of British psychedelia.  Other gems are to be found here too, including "Yellow Book", trippy mellow popsike with piano and breathy echoed-out vocals.  Here's what The Tapestry of Delights had to say about this LP - "Roger McGough was one of the country's top poets. He recorded this now extremely rare album with Mike McGear whilst both were members of Scaffold. With originals so hard to come by, it has inevitably been counterfeited prior to its welcome reissue. The album featured many famous names including Jimi Hendrix, Spencer Davis, Dave Mason, Paul McCartney, John Mayall and Gary Walker. It's a mixture of McGear's poems typified by Summer With Monika and some melodic McGear pop songs. Among the best of these are Ex-Art Student which has Jimi Hendrix playing guitar and sitar and Graham Nash on vocals. The duo were actually signed to the new Apple label for this album, but since the label hadn't been launched it was leased to Parlophone!"  Winning bidder pays $3.00 media shipping in the US, $6 to Canada, $11 everywhere else.  Paypal, Bidpay, cash, checks and money orders accepted.
