?????????????????????

When Miles reappeared in 1981 after his five-year retreat from the music business, we were all happy to have him back, but the dark magician would not record uncompromising, important music anymore as he did, for example, here on Dark Magus, recorded in 1974 at the Carnegy Hall, NYC. And the music is uncompromising indeed. It speaks of crisis, pain, conflict, depression, defiance.

Dark Magus has been overlooked, firstly because it had been released by CBS-Sony and was hard to find outside Japan and/or too expensive, and secondly because of the silly but eternal "THIS ISN'T JAZZ" argument by yesterday's people. By this time, Miles was long past the restrictive concept of music genre used by the music biz to sell their products, and by cons in order to find stability in an ever changing world.

There's no keyboards but three guitarists, two saxophone players and two percussionists. The band - David Liebman, Azar Lawrence, Pete Cosey, Dominique Gaumont, Reggie Lucas, Mtume, Al Foster, Michael Henderson - creates a sound canvass that's permanently dense and complex. Foster and Mtume are like dervishes. Michael Henderson is the reliable, ice-cold, antagonist. Pete Cosey stands somewhere between Hendrix and McLaughlin. The other guitarists create sounds of distortion and exoticism, a timbre enhanced by Mtume's reverberated percussion. Al Foster shines with his wall-of-sound cymbals (Will). Liebman's and Lawrence's inputs are rare yet credible. Miles plays fragments, screams, he experiments with the electronic possibilities of the trumpet. And he creates exotic textures at the organ.

It's almost impossible to play this double album all at once, especially when played loud, the way it should be played, unless you're willing to leave planet Earth and risk damage reentering the atmosphere. But maybe that's just what you need.

If you really want to frighten and terrorize your a$$hole neighbors then purchase this album and then proceed to go home and blare this masterpiece of brutal  sonic mayhem at absolute maximum volume. Yeah. Fvck em!!!! Blare it at 4:30 in the fvckin' morning and tell them to go outside and play hide and go fvck themselves if they have a problem with it.

This $hit is deep. Profundity at it's most extreme. Intense. Savage. Feral. Evil. Malicious. Beautiful. What a genius. Miles Davis took his vision to the exosphere and beyond. Myopia was not part of his vocabulary........astral projection and  infinte foresight......that's what Miles was all about. Hardcore and virulent fusion unlike anything else. What a gift. Sit back, strap yourself in, turn it way the fvck up, and prepare yourself for propulsion into a dimension of the likes of which you couldn't even begin to fathom.

·       CONDITION:

·       RECORD

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted below, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the normal room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          WE GRADE THE ALBUM (BOTH RECORDS) AS STRONG NEAR MINT. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The album comes with  the original insert intact

(c)           The records are STILL in their original inner plastic baggies, which have - apparently with success - shielded the record from the harmful impact of elements over many years!

(d)          The records are  pressed on a RELATIVELY  thick, inflexible vinyl. This is NOT a thin, flimsy ('dynaflex' type),  vinyl, but not the thickest, most rigid vinyl, either.

(e)           The records are pressed on a beautiful, virgin-grade vinyl, which is usually used for audiophile, extended-dynamic-range, half-speed mastered and connoisseur pressings.

(f)              The records are pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(g)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·                               THE COVER

COVER IS NEAR MINT.

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         Minor shelf wear noted on the seams (nothing significant)

-         Cover has one corner slightly dinged (nothing significant)

NO OTHER VISIBLE FLAWS OR IMPERFECTIONS ON THE  COVER
