THE HAWK / DIRTY JOHN CROWN / PRECINCT / HOGAN BABY ... 7-inch, 45rpm EP single by MEATBALL aka ALAN PARKER / WILLIAM PARRISH aka ALAN HAWKSHAW / G. GRANT aka GORDON CHAMBERS and SIMON HASELEY aka SIMON PARK. Original UK pressing on the HUDSON MUSIC Co label (DWH/EP 120) from circa 1972. Super-obscure, UK Library grail. Arguably, the hottest release from the elusive EP series. Small group funk with that ultra-sleazy English Library sound. How many of you out there knew that the killer B-boy drums / hard congas a la Salambos / growling flute / 'strung-out' orchestrations / fuzz and e-piano themes PRECINCT / THE HAWK and DIRTY JOHN CROWN were issued on ultra trendy 7-inch format ;) PRECINCT is a Sweeney-esque groove (with hip hop breakdowns) once used for the Thames Television murder mystery quiz series, Whodunit (hosted by ex Dr Who actor, Jon Pertwee). Great for DJs. Comped on Bite Harder - Music De Wolfe Studio Sampler Vol 2. THE HAWK is even more aggressive with that quintessential British TV crime drama sound. Funky wah wah / buzzing synthesizers / tons of heavy drums and exotic percussion-heavy breaks. Comped on Bite Hard -Music De Wolfe Studio Sampler Vol. 1. Amazing strings (delirious Blaxploitation / Gordon Staples sounding) with intricate twists and turns on the fabulously funky DIRTY JOHN CROWN theme. Finally, the sleazy HOGAN BABY theme is (for us, anyway) one of the pinnacle examples of UK Library lounge. A downtempo mix of mellow fender rhodes and beats a la Studio 2 Misty by Collage with cool horns / congas / beautiful flute solos and orchestrations. This is the Hudson release just after the Gloaming Beach Comber EP (DWH/EP 119) we sold a few weeks ago. Psychedelic and gritty mood music from the De Wolfe Library Lp HOGAN THE HAWK & DIRTY JOHN CROWN (DW/LP 3243) by these cult composers and outstanding musicians. Seldom comes up for sale. Very rare Library EP!!!        

Our record grading: SEALED / M- / VG++ / VG+ / VG 

Vinyl is in shiny, strong VG++ condition overall with some hairlines / mini scuffs and some faint, old pressing residue marks. Light surface noises. Some soft pops and ticks (as you can hear on the soundclip). The soft card picture sleeve is in strong VG+ condition with some general creasing and wear from storage. Light ring dirt marks. Corner wear. Some natural age discoloration. Pen writing in French to front sleeve. Very rare Library EP!!!
