Description

Here is a near impossible Led Zeppelin Rarity--only the 5th documented copy of the ultra-rare WMET promotional version of Physical Graffiti.  This was an unknown Led Zeppelin rarity until 2010, when we discovered the first known copy in the collection of a longtime music business executive Ken Barnes (see the full story here: http://recordmecca.blogspot.com/2010/10/record-collecting-adventuresdiscovering.html).

The discovery of a previously unknown 1976 Led Zeppelin album variant in 2010 was so startling that the UK magazine Record Collector devoted an entire page it, including an interview with Recordmecca's Jeff Gold.

Chicago powerhouse FM radio station WMET came on the air in 1976, and soon after gave away an unknown number of custom WMET promotional copies of Physical Graffiti as contest prizes. The album is identical in every way to the U.S. first pressing of Physical Graffiti, except the die-cut windows in the album cover display the WMET call letters and various unique artwork, instead of the regular artwork spelling out the album's title.  It is generally assumed these custom promo copies were made for WMET by Atlantic/Swan Song Records.

We sold our first (sealed) copy for $5,000. in 2011; since that time three more copies have surfaced; two more sealed examples and one open copy.  The discovery of this example brings the total known copies to five, strongly suggesting very few were made, as only these have surfaced in the 40 years since they were made.

This copy is factory sealed with fully intact shrink wrap.  There is a small moisture stain along the bottom edge, which isn't immediately noticeable, as it is the same sepia color as the cover.  It's visible on the front cover along the bottom edge in the left hand corner (about 1" long) and on the back cover on the bottom edge, near the right hand corner (about 3" long).  As you can see from the close up photos here, it's not much of a distraction, and if the buyer wished, it would be simple to replace this cover with an identical one from a regular copy.

A very rare opportunity to own the rarest Led Zeppelin albums in the world.

We grade all records visually, cover first, then disc; using the abbreviations M / NM / EX / VG with + and -. We try to describe everything as accurately as possible, and spot check any vinyl flaw that looks like it might make a sound. We regularly receive praise for our grading, but as all grading is subjective, we are happy to give a full refund for anything you aren't happy with no questions asked.

Unlike some eBay sellers, we don't feel the need to hype records by including long reviews or albums, quoting lyrics, making up arcane variations. We just grade accurately, describe any flaw, and sell only high quality rare records in fine condition.
