Description
Yup, this is that one, one of the Blue Note holy grails. Very hard to find in this amazing condition - original Blue Note pressing of Jutta Hipp and Zoot Sims.
I am begrudgingly selling it from my personal collection (acquired 15 years ago, played half a dozen times), as there are some projects around the house that need paying for.
The story of Jutta Hipp is interesting, if not somewhat tragic. She was known in Germany as one of the best piano players in Europe and toured there. Leonard Feather heard her and got her a gig in New York in 1955. She recorded three albums for Blue Note, with this one, her last in 1956. She left jazz as a performer after her last recording, and worked in a clothing factory as a seamstress, in New York, for 35 years. Her artistic pursuits after 1956 included photography and painting. Her desire to stop performing may have been because of a falling out with Feather, her extreme stage fright, anxiety and battles with depression -- no one is quite sure and she didn't speak much about it. Following her death in 2003, there has been somewhat of a resurgence in interest in Jutta Hipp -- both as a pioneer female performer and leading jazz artist. In 2011, a street in Leipzig was named after her – Jutta-Hipp-Weg.
This record is considered by many, her finest - and I would agree. And Zoot Sims on the sax is nothing short of amazing. It's a terrific album.

Record condition: VG+ Beautiful, high gloss and high luster. Some light hiss and some faint scuff marks. I have not attempted to clean the record with any fluids or chemicals - with a cleaning may play vg+++ / nm, as the vinyl is in very good + to excellent condition. No scratches or skips.
Cover: VG. Amazing artwork by Reid Miles. Front and back are in very good condition. There is wear to the cover edges and a single seam split on one edge (measures approx 1.5 inches - see photos). There is a light penciled letter at top left of rear of cover (I think its the letter B). There is some faint record edge wear on front and back, but is light. The front left bottom corner has a crease.

I am happy to answer any questions or send additional photos, if desired by bidders.
Shipping: I will double box (media mailer and then larger box with insulating foam peanuts for protection) and send UPS 3 day (signature required), and insure for the full price paid from the auction winner (am charging flat fee of $15 for that). I can arrange for additional insurance, if desired, by auction winner. Will only be shipping to the contiguous United States (48 states) -- sorry, the rest of the world will have to get Jutta/Zoot elsewhere!

Just Answering some of the questions from bidders.- It is a flat edge record (early pressing)- It is a kakubushi frame cover, frame only present on top and left side of front cover (added 2 photos to show this, 3rd and 4th photos) - it was hard to see this in the original cover picture- There is no original paper record sleeve (insert), but I will ship the record in thick Vinyl defender sleeve outside of the record jacket to protect the cover from damage
- If any additional photos or information is desired, just message me, happy to follow up
