| Jimi Hendrix Cry of Love RED VINYL LP , An often overused term but not this time , this LP is probably as rare as they come, This must be a truly once in a life time opportunity to buy the rarest item in the Hendrix catalogue. So rare that only 2 copies are known to exist (check it out in the Record Collector Book) , now having said that Im not sure if this copy is one of the 2 copies that are known about or if this is a 3rd copy that has surfaced and is undocumented. But it is a genuine copy of this incredibly rare LP. I have provided lots of photos of all the relevant details needed so please give it a little time to fully download..
THE SLEEVE ......the Gatefold sleeve itself is quite worn (a nice VG) the spine has quite a bit of wear to it but is still fully intact , the internal of the gatefold is in EX condition , no rips tears or writing , there is a 9 inch seam split to the bottom seam that holds the record , but this is a clean split with no ragged edges , having said that though the sleeve itself would be fully able to be switched with a better sleeve as it has no rarity value in itself and is identical to any other sleeve of this fairly common LP in its black vinyl form , but in deference to its historical value I am selling it with its original Sleeve in its true state.
THE LABEL (S) .......... Now if the pictures have already downloaded themselves for you you will have noticed something unusual already , you will have seen that this LP has its correct "TRACK" records label on its "A" side but the flip side has an erroneous "B" side "POLYDOR" label ( N.B. "Track Records" is a subsidiary label of "Polydor records" ) and that the Polydor label is actually from a Bert Kaempfert record , but have no fear , the LP itself is "Cry of Love on Both sides!! , both labels are in EX condition ........ See that the bottom of this auction text for a Record Collector article that explains how this label mix up came about , its well documented..
THE RECORD........ .the record itself is in a nice VG+ condition , there are some small marks on both sides that is conducive with an LP of this age , but none of the marks are deep or cause any problem in its play , on the first track of the "A" side the track "Freedom" does "hiss" slightly for about 15 seconds of its introduction but everything is fine after that , having said that thou , this is one of those rare occasions where the record moves into artefact territory and the value of the record is in being WHAT it is rather than its condition. Stamped (not etched) In the "deadwax" runout grooves are the numbers (on the "Track" side) 2408101 A//1 then four characters that are undeterminable....and on the "polydor" side .2408101 B//1 12 and two undeterminable characters.
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with questions you may have on this item , I will gladly do what I can to answer them , I will also send this item free by registered post to anywhere in the world once payment has been sent and cleared , successful UK buyers can come to my record shop to pick the record up themselves to check it over before parting with payment if they so desire , but this must be within a reasonable 1 week timescale that must be agreed by mutual consent via Email BEFORE the auction ends .......I wont entertain any "I'll try and pick it up within a month"
anyway , Good luck and happy bidding.... Some people have reported not being able to see the photos provided , if this is the case for you try clicking on this link to view them , ..thanks ... http://www.boomspeed.com/daiheafield/hendrix.jpg
Having Done a little more reseach on this very rare record I have dug up this article from the Record Collector Magazine Dated Nov 1993 , issue number 171 , and in the Hendrix discography in that issue is a brief history of the Red Vinyl "The Cry of Love" LP , and it explains in detail how this red vinyl copy came about , and goes to explain the somewhat slap-dash way that the wrong Kaempfert label appears on the "B" side , , there seems to be some discrepency in the actual numbers pressed the 2004 issue of the Record Collector "Bible" states that there are 2 in existance , whilst this article mentions 5 , whichever is right is no doubt that this is still an exectionally rare LP....here it is
