Description

JIMI HENDRIX - 'THE CRY OF LOVE'

We are proud to offer one of the rarest UK-pressed records - a crimson red vinyl pressing of Jimi Hendrix's 1971 album 'Cry Of Love'

There are believed to be only five existing examples of this legendary red vinyl disc, which was actually a test-pressing to gauge dealer reaction to vinyl colour of the forthcoming Pink Fairies 'Never Never Land' LP. For the test, Polydor used stampers from the disc they were pressing at that time, which happened to be Jimi Hendrix's 'Cry Of Love'

The existence of this album was highlighted in a 'Record Collector' magazine article in 1993 and to date, only one or two copies have surfaced. Those have had mismatched labels with a 'Cry of Love' label on one side and a 'Very Best Of Bert Kaempfert' label on the other. However this undocumented example has the correct 'Cry Of Love' labels on BOTH sides and plays as labelled

Machine stamped matrices: 2408101 A//1 & 2408101 B//1

Stamper codes: 111 5 & 12 23

Vinyl weight: 139g

This disc is supplied without an original cover

CONDITION

Disc

Labels: EXCELLENT

As you can see, both are clean & fully intact. There are one or two light scuffs & spindle trails on each, but nothing which spoils them

Visual: VERY GOOD +

A vivid and vibrantly coloured disc which is a solid crimson red throughout with no spots or speckles in the vinyl. There are a handful of light marks and hairline scratches which are visible at an angle in strong daylight, together with a few wispy inner-sleeve removal marks beneath halogen light. Both sides of this treasure lie 100% flat on the turntable when playing

Sound Quality: EXCELLENT

This disc has received some play but the sound quality throughout is unworn and my play-check found no evidence of any groove/playwear on any track. Some low-level background is audible between tracks and during some of the few quieter passages, along with a few light ticks at the beginning of 'My Friend'. However, there are no jumps, repeats or any other significant audible distraction on this gem

Don't miss this rare opportunity to acquire this disc which is unlikely to come up for sale again
