The Following is Printed Below One of The Signed Bob Auger Photographs:

Joy Division went into Arrow Studios in Manchester on Monday, 1 May 1978, and spent the first two days working to record Ian’s vocals properly. The eleven tracks were laid down on Wednesday and Thursday. With Bob Auger, who had set up the studio and was the session engineer, basically co-producing the album with the band. Searling (who had booked the session) and Anderson took little part in the actual recording sessions. On Thursday night (when Terry, the group’s manager, was on hand) they signed contracts which were backdated to Monday of that week.

The Bob Auger 1978 “An Ideal For Living” 7in EP:

This Unique EP is the only known item from The RCA/WARSAW Sessions that exists in public ownership. Moreover, this EP may in fact be the only physical item from that part of Joy Division’s story. This is because in logical theory there are (Two) other actual items.

The first are the recorded reel to reel Tapes, however, they have not shown-up, and their whereabouts is not clear, because, all the existing available recordings from these sessions are originally from a cassette tape.

The second physical item that has not shown-up either are the signed contracts between RCA Records and Joy Division, which may well have been torn/destroyed by Rob Gretton, or just lost/destroyed in the passing years.

Another very important historical fact is that this “An Ideal For Living” 7in EP was given to Bob Auger in May 1978, shortly before its release in June 1978, so to show the RCA sound engineer/producer Bob Auger their sound and style of music, making it with all probability and indication (The FIRST) “An Ideal For Living” 7in EP given to anyone by WARSAW/Joy Division to further their musical career.

With all suggestion and understanding from the historical events, this “An Ideal For Living” EP was given to Bob Auger by Ian Curtis himself in Arrow Studios, Manchester, as Ian’s efforts are well known to have been greatly influential and responsible for that part of the WARSAW/Joy Division narrative.

This strange RCA/WARSAW Sessions narrative is extremely important as part of the WARSAW/Joy Division music “Jigsaw” because, it puts perfectly into prospective to everyone what came before the 1979 “Unknown Pleasures” album.

This 1978 “An Ideal For Living” 7in EP was kept safely by Bob Auger, and if the story about the “Sandwich-Bag-Plastic-Cover” purchased by Ian are correct, then this “An Ideal For Living” EP is the only one ever seen by this collection, that can be faithfully identified as being with a “Sandwich-Bag-Plastic-Cover”. This is also because the accompanying Plastic-Cover is in actual fact somewhat lighter than the usual 7in EP Plastic-Covers, consequently supporting the “Sandwich-Bag-Plastic-Cover” story in someway.

Unique Joy Division items cannot really be condition evaluated, as they are too valuable and without comparison, however, if it wasn’t for an old pressure-line on the front of the cover, to the right of the drum, which is hardly visible, and can just about be seen in the accompanying photos, this historic Bob Auger 1978 “An Ideal For Living” 7in EP would most likely easily be, the best copy in existence, it was that well cherished and kept by Bob Auger for all these years.

All items are individually placed inside easy to remove acid-free holders.
