JOHN MAYALL & ERIC CLAPTON – Lonely Years / Bernard Jenkins ORIG Purdah Records 45 // VER 120 (UK, Mono, 1966)
Pleased to offer one of THE cornerstones of any UK blues collection – the one-off release between Mayall & Clapton on the Vernon brother’s micro, small-run PURDAH records from, I think, 1966. This original, 3-prong copy is in fine condition, showing it’s been played very sparingly and with due care and attention. In other words, it’s a beauty!
It comes with what I believe to be its original plain white die-cut paper sleeve. Somewhat browned around the edges and with foxing spots but still there and in one piece.
The labels are just fine. Still a nice bright yellow – no embedded dirt or excessive ring rub. NO writing or residue or sticker shades. On the B, there’s just a slither of loose paper (still attached) – to the centre area. Other than that an excellent pair of these rare UK labels.
The vinyl is similarly impressive. Maintains a lovely deep shine and shows only two fine, short and soft surface lines – one per side – these apart it’s very close to mint. NO nasty scratches or scrapes, no embedded dirt or dulling. Overall a brilliant looking copy of this most important UK blues landmark. I’m maybe under grading but I’ll say a full and true EX (Excellent), probably higher. Graded to please.
IT HAS BEEN CAREFULLY LISTENED TO and plays perfectly without impediment. NOTHING untoward on the audio was detected and it plays close to mint.
RARE disc, reputedly one of only 500. Don’t miss this!
