Description

DELANEY AND BONNIE - 'THE ORIGINAL DELANEY AND BONNIE'

This genuine 1969 UK pressing of 'SAPCOR 7' was never released and is the rarest LP on the Apple label.

Delaney & Bonnie & Friends were a Rock/Soul Group fronted by husband & wife duo Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett and in early 1969 they signed to Elektra Records to record their second album 'Accept No Substitutes'. The album was recorded at Elektra's recording studio and on hearing pre-release tapes of the album, George Harrison offered the group a contract with Apple Records, which the group accepted despite already been contracted to Elektra.

Apple's plan was to release Delaney & Bonnie's second album 'Accept No Substitutes' under the title of 'Delaney & Bonnie & Friends'. Apple got as far as starting production of the album before Elektra declared Apple's contract void and the pressing was subsequently stopped.

Most of the small batch pressed at EMI's Hayes factory were destroyed and only a handful are known to survive.

No covers were prepared for the Apple release and none have ever been known to exist.

This genuine example is without doubt the rarest & most collectable of all Apple releases and the opportunity to acquire it rarely appears.

The disc bears the richly coloured Apple label with the catalogue number: SAPCOR 7

It was pressed at EMI's Hayes factory from stampers/metal work supplied by Elektra.

Side 1: SAPCORE 7A/EKS-74039-A S2

Side 2: SAPCORE 7B/EKS-74039-B S2

EMI stamper codes: 1/G & 1/G

Vinyl weight: 142g

No artwork covers exist, but this disc is housed within its original plain white, front laminated factory sleeve, with Apple inner-sleeve.

Disc

Labels: NEAR MINT

The most important visual aspect of this album and both are superb with no spindle trails to either centre hole.

Visual: EXCELLENT +

This disc has been well looked after and has obviously not been handled very much at all. Both playing surfaces are clean and retain all of their factory shine. The only visual blemishes visible in strong daylight are a tiny 0.5cm scuff on the side 1 run-in and a further light/non-feelable 1.5cm mark on track 2 of side 1. Side 2 bears a 1.5cm surface mark on track 1 but nothing I would call a scratches anywhere. Closer examination beneath halogen light reveals only harmless wispy paper hairlines consistent with inner-sleeve removal. Both sides lie 100% flat on the turntable when playing.

Sound Quality: EXCELLENT +

This copy has been barely played and sounds clean & unworn throughout. Apart from a few ticks at the start of track 3 on side 1, it plays superbly and without any audible distractions or wear.

Cover: EXCELLENT
