Ashes to Ashes
This is a truly unique one off record.
Produced in 1980 at the RCA Records plant in Washington Tyne & Wear it is the only one of this title to be pressed in PURPLE vinyl.
Up to this point most if not all vinyl records were made in standard issue black. This was at the very beginning of the Punk Era and trials were been done to produce some punk records in coloured vinyl.
This David Bowie record was produced on the new stampers (which are the two mould tools which squeeze the plastic vinyl together to make the finished record) while the trial colour vinyl was still on the record press. I was with the technicians as they ran an initial small batch of this pressing to test the tool.
All the rest of the pressing was scraped and the material reground making this record the only one of its kind in the world.
I have place a high reserve on this record to reflect its total uniqueness and reserve the right to close the auction ahead of time as the items is being considered at this time by a number serious collectors.
