This 1969 release features David Bowie's first hit single, "Space Oddity," and sets the tone for the spacey ZIGGY STARDUST to come. But other than the title track, SPACE ODDITY isn't a glam-rock album. For that phase, one must move ahead to 1970's THE MAN WHO SOLD THE WORLD. These folk-based tracks largely present Bowie as a surrealist singer-songwriter. The uncharacteristically bitter and sarcastic "Letter to Hermione" is the most impassioned track here, presenting, as it does, the angry side of this master of cool. While still earlier recordings are noted for their Anthony affectations, SPACE ODDITY is where the Bowie myth begins to take shape.

Every track on ZIGGY STARDUST & THE SPIDERS FROM MARS sounds like it was pulled from the rock 'n' roll bible. The album created a mythology that reached beyond the Chuck Berry folklorisms of the everyday rocker to create a new type of rock star. With ZIGGY, Bowie created a viable alter-ego to descend onto the planet and wreak havoc on rock's fertile soil. In doing so, he created the most original rock creation since the music's inception 20 years before.
Musically, the album was as inspired as Ziggy's persona. Mick Ronson's snarling guitar evoked the triumphant power of the late '60s guitar heroes, but added a flash so dynamic fans knew why the Spiders were labelled "glitter rockers." As an album, ZIGGY STARDUST told the story of rock through the eyes of Ziggy, an alien--with a narrative that was equally sensational and intimate.
Any doubts as to Bowie's intentions to take over rock were displaced on a closer listen to "Star." At the end of the song Bowie (as Ziggy) whispers, "just watch me now," and his determination is eerily obvious. Combining skills as a mime artist and top-rate vocal dramatist, Bowie created Ziggy, the bisexual space man, who sang "songs of darkness and disgrace." The planet was dying, something made evident on the first track "Five Years," and the only way to survive was to "Hang On To Yourself."
In the end, "they had to break up the band," according to the tale told in ZIGGY STARDUST, but the inevitably tragic strains of this "Rock 'N' Roll Suicide" had left their mark on the dying planet. They are still being felt today.

David Bowie's 1976 film "The Man Who Fell to Earth" reached cult status due to Bowie's outstanding performance and confirmed the film's director Nic Roeg, and book's author Walter Tevis, as champions of their respective fields. The highly celebrated music is finally available on vinyl. Please note that David Bowie, himself, does not perform on this soundtrack.

The Deluxe boxset features a poster, production stills, a coffee table book containing the story of the soundtrack, 48-page hardback book with rare photos and a new essay about the film from Paolo Hewitt. John Phillips of the Mamas and Papas composed and recorded much of the music for the film. The majority of Phillips’ compositions have been unavailable for 40 years, until now.

Little is known, and much has been asked, as to why the soundtrack was never originally released. Due to lost tapes recently being uncovered it is now possible to present the original recordings.

David Bowie's 24th studio album, produced by long-time collaborator Tony Visconti, was announced on Bowie's 66th birthday. "Where Are We Now?" is the first single from his first album of original material in 10 years.
Working in secret, Bowie and producer Tony Visconti recorded the album over a two year period, spending about 3 months actually writing and recording the album.

The compilation album, Chanesonebowie, was originally released in 1976 and includes songs from the 1969-1976 era. In 2003, the album was ranked number 425 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

David Robert Jones was born in Brixton on January 8, 1947. At age thirteen, inspired by the jazz of the London West End, he picked up the saxophone and called up Ronnie Ross for lessons. Early bands he played with – The Kon-Rads, The King Bees, the Mannish Boys and the Lower Third –provided him with an introduction into the showy world of pop and mod, and by 1966 he was David Bowie, with long hair and aspirations of stardom rustling about his head.

CHANGESTWOBOWIE, the follow up to David's hugely successful first "Best Of" compilation CHANGESONEBOWIE, has not officially been available since the late 1980s. Featuring iconic cover photography by Greg Gorman, it was first released in 1981 and was only briefly available on CD in 1985 but has long since been deleted.

Drawing on material spanning from Hunky Dory (1971) to Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps) (1980), it achieved gold status in the U.K. album chart in 1982. It will be reissued as a 180gram vinyl edition available randomly on its initial limited manufacturing run in black and blue vinyl before reverting solely to black vinyl.
