Description

THE BEATLES - 'I WANT TO HOLD YOUR HAND'/'THIS BOY'

Released in the UK on November 29th 1963, this 45 became the first single to sell one million copies on advance orders alone. It topped the UK charts for five weeks commencing December 12th 1964 and the U.S. charts for seven weeks over the Christmas period of that year making it easily the best-selling Beatles single worldwide.

This extremely rare 100% genuine UK Demonstration disc was sent out to UK radio stations a few weeks prior to the release date.

The record itself is a 2-sided 7" 45rpm disc with the correct oversized white Parlophone labels (R 5084) featuring a large red 'A' on side 1

A single letter 'K' purchase tax code is visible in the centre of the ''I Want To Hold Your Hand' label and in both run-outs.

Matrix numbers: 7XCE 17559-1N & 7XCE 17560-1N

Stamper codes: 3/H & 1/TL

The disc is housed within its original EMI 'TOP POP' promo cover which was used to house all Beatles/Parlophone demos from this period.

Disc

Labels: EXCELLENT +

Rare to find such a clean and unblemished set - free from any writing, stickers or missing paper.

Visual: EXCELLENT +

This remarkable example has been rarely played and well looked-after these past 48 years as both playing surface are perfectly clean and retain all of their 'as new' deep-gloss shine. The 'A' side is particularly clean and bears no scuffs marks or scratches at all when viewed in strong daylight. The 'b' side is just as clean only with a handful of harmless light surface marks from turntable contact, but nothing significant or anything I would call a scratch. Both sides of this superb example lie 100% flat on the turntable when playing.

Play: EXCELLENT +

Incredible power and clarity from this unbeatable hit single mix which during my single careful play-check at volume gave no hint of any groove/play wear distortion in either channel. In fact, apart from a touch of normal light background on the run-in, there is little to fault sound-wise. The delicate 'This Boy' is similarly unworn and bears no significant deterioration to the sound quality or indeed any major faults to either song. A privilege to listen to and to own.

Cover: EXCELLENT

Clean & flat with just a few tiny tears around the central window but no seams splits or writing anywhere.
