Another from my personal collection.I have decided to list this original 1st UK pressing of Black Sabbath's Paranoid. The audio quality is awesome throughout on my systems, I heard no loud clicks or pops and no distortion during the play of the vinyl and this the rarest to find and very desirable 1st issue unlaminated gatefold cover' complete with the original Vertigo record sleeve!
Black Sabbath are an English heavy metal band from Birmingham. The original band line up of Ozzy Osbourne (vocals), Tony Iommi (guitar), Terence "Geezer" Butler (bass), and Bill Ward (drums) is the same as the current line up (2007) although there have been many shifts of personnel over the years.
Black Sabbath remain a dominant influence in the heavy metal genre!!
Paranoid is the influential and iconic second album by British heavy metal band Black Sabbath, and contains some of their most famous work, including the songs "Iron Man", "War Pigs", and the title track "Paranoid."
Released September 18, 1970 in the UK, only seven months after the band's debut, Paranoid is Black Sabbath's only UK #1 album, displacing Simon and Garfunkel's Bridge Over Troubled Water for one week!!.
Paranoid peaked at number 12 on Billboard's Pop Albums chart (North America). The singles "Paranoid" and "Iron Man" peaked at number 61 and number 52, respectively, on the Pop singles chart. "Paranoid" as a single went to number 4 in the UK. In 2003, the album was ranked number 130 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time!.
The original UK vinyl release was in a gatefold sleeve, with the generic Vertigo 'swirl' inner bag. The inner of the gatefold had a b/w photo of the band, posed outdoors on a grassy hill, being their first appearance on album artwork. To spread the original picture over the gatefold, Osbourne was separated from the other members of the band and a section of the grass was copied and dropped into the gap. This is only readily apparent when one sees that original promo photo, whereupon it is then easy to spot the added grass on the LP!!.
The album was originally titled "War Pigs" but it is said that the record company changed it to "Paranoid" because of sensitivity about the Vietnam War. However, the band's visual interpretation of a "War Pig" was still featured on the cover. Nonetheless, the album's title and its picture of man with a sword jumping out from behind a tree meshed well together and the cover is now considered a classic album cover!!.

The labels.
The original VERTIGO labels are in awesome condition!!! features the swirl on side a. and the Large swirl logo and track listings on side b.(only earliest press,, All rights.... are featured around the label rim(only early press)!!!!!!! Any spidering is very minimal in my opinion and can just barely be seen angled to the light only, it is obvious that this vinyl has had only minimal play, little if (no) spindle ware So rare for an album that is 37 years old!!!!! very very collectable indeed!!!!
The vinyl.
The vinyl is absolutely superbe on initial visual inspection this looks awesome and still retains its sheen from new!!!!!! (please note this vinyl has only ever been played by me personally and indeed hardly ever played at all in the last 25 years. On initial inspection of the playing surface, to be honest it is hard to see a blemish! Only in strong light could possibly any very light surface marks be seen, mainly sleeve removal only!, nothing that would cause any loud clicks or pops! this has been stored in a case with the vinyl seperated from the sleeve and cover to prevent ringware and damage!! This is how i have always stored my records!!
The Audio Quality
I have played this through track for track prior to listing on a top system and the audio quality is superbe TOP TOP TOP! cristal clear and extreemely vibrant, nice and quiet even in between quieter passages and in the intervals!!!!(no) signs of any distortion or grooveware at all!!!!! Even in between tracks there is extreemely minimal noise, lovely and quiet, almost like new!!!Please allow for the odd light isolated static or tick here and there but importantly no loud clicks or pops are heard at all! (very rare indeed) This almost plays as new on my system in my opinion!!! I would class myself as highly critical and this is a truly exceptional sounding vinyl and the 2ND EVER ALBUM RELEASED by this awesome band ''black sabbath'' and so hard to find the earliest 1st pressing like this!!!!!!!! Please check my completed listings of records that i have sold of this calaber and you will see that i normally get it right!!!This audio must grade at least excellent plus in my opinion!!
Please note! I always make this disclaimer! That although I never heard any clicks or pops during the play of this record please allow for the odd isolated static\crackle tick here and there certainly (not )consistant throughout the audio, please remember that this is a genuine 37 year old vinyl that would have been played on a 37 year old system!!!
Important note! This vinyl has been stored in a case laying dormant for at least 25 years!,, A build up of dirt and dust in the grooves causes static ticks\crackle. A constant clean before each play is highly recomended! A constant clean before each play will reduce any static and will enhance the audio quality!
The cover.
This is the original 1st press Vertigio gatefold (unlaminated) front, cover ! This shows very light general storage ware\marks\idents only! Any creasings\lines can be seen if looked for angled in the light very superficial and light general rubbing consistant with age but this is still strong and straight in appearence!!!!Amaizingly (no) major nasty creases (see photo) superbe condition of this 1st pressing cover which is nearly 37 years old!!(no) splits or tares sharp corners and all text can be read!!!!!! (no) splits (no) tares (no) nasty hand writing!!!The spine is straight and suffers from no flattening with age! This must grade at least excellent in my opinion!
The record sleeve.
This is the original vertigo poly lined sleeve (no) splits or tares just light staining with age, (common on these originals due to the fact that the resin in the glue causes this over time)!! There are (no) splits or tares , this is strong and very straight, superbe condition !!!! and original !!!! PLEASE NOTE! THE VINYL IS ALWAYS STORED SEPERATELY FROM THE ORIGINAL SLEEVE.!!!!!
THIS IN MY OPINION IS ONE OF THE HARDEST BLACK SABBATH 1ST PRESSINGS TO FIND IN GOOD CONDITION!!!
