Description

This is an original Pine Bluff Arkansas radio station 10" acetate with the 2 spots on it promoting the early Elvis Presley concert at the local Pine Bluff Arkansas high school auditorium on February 23rd 1955. I've collected records for over 25 years and this is the real thing and isn't just a copy of the original. The label has the writing on it where they called this concert the "Hillbilly Show" and there are 2 promo cuts on it, one is to promote the show as upcoming and the other is for the actual day of the show. Both of the promo clips are right at 1 minute and 20 seconds in length and the "Coming" clip starts off with 10 seconds of Elvis singing That's Alright Mama and then the DJ comes in, and the "Today" clip starts off with Blue Moon Of Kentucky for 10 seconds and then the DJ comes in. Here is the dialogue transcription of the spots. The "Coming" clip after the beginning 10 seconds of Elvis singing stops, "Howdy neighbor! That young man you're listening to is Elvis Presley. You can see and hear Elvis Presley in person this coming Wednesday night, February the 23rd at the high school auditorium right here in Pine Bluff Arkansas. Two big shows, 7:30 and 9:30 PM. Advance sales are now on at Moses Melody Shop 502 Main Street right here in Pine Bluff. The advance price of tickets is only 75 cents and at the box office they will be 1 dollar. Hurry and get your tickets today and save money. In addition to Elvis Presley you're gonna see and hear the fabulous Duke Of Paducah, Mother Maybelle and The Carter Sisters of the Grand Ole Opry, Guardian Bill, Charley Stewart, Jimmie Rodgers Snow. This coming Wednesday February 23rd at the Pine Bluff High School Auditorium." The "Today" clip is pretty much the same promo and the same length and it starts off with the 10 seconds of "Blue Moon Of Kentucky" and just changes it up to "hear Elvis Presley tonight" and ends it with with "It's the big Show, it's tonight at the Pine Bluff Auditorium. The DJ has the friendly folksy country voice that you would have heard back then from a Grand Ole Opry type announcer and he does project excitement for the concert. The two spots are the 2nd and 3rd tracks on the record and the station looks to have put 3 small strips of transparent tape on the longer first track and I have listened to the track the best I can with the tape on it and the content on the first track seems to be just test type announcing material that they didn't use. Both of the Elvis spots play all the way through with no skipping through the entire spots and you do have to lift the needle up to play from the "Coming" to the "Today" track. Both tracks do play with the crackling background sound and the announcers voice comes through clearly and the crackling really does provide the authentic sound of the time to the record. I haven't attempted to clean the record at all and it is just as I acquired it and I show a number of photos. It will be packed well and shipped right out.
